I paged down to international checking each distributor on the way. I did not page to the bottom. wow only one place makes the frit. I just thought Momka made it.

You could get Momka to send your glass first class postal mail, the post office will make frit for you LOL

Most of Momka glass would not make good frit anyhow. You could make your own though out of some of the colors.

I bought quite a bit of it from the one source who make sit, and I have so far found it to be very nice frit. Im no expert, but I'm pretty happy with it and it offers some different colors then you find in NS or GA,

Just my two cents..

I completely agree - I have been using her frit for a few years, and I adore it. Very unique, I'm totally hooked!!

Has anyone gotten any Momka frit lately.

Momka no longer lists eplanet on her website. I visited eplant and they were out of stock or didn't have several I was looking for. I messaged them and never got a response.

I'm thinking they are doing away with their Momka frit creation.

There are several of her colors that I would love to get ... I can make my own but obvioiusly that would be really small batches (like a tablespoon at a time)

I actuallly did maybe a month ago, placed an order and emailed her, in which I received a quick response. Could be she doesn't work on the weekend. Please keep us posted on what happens.

No I emailed several weeks ago (not this weekend) ... to date have not heard anything and then tried to go to her website after I wrote the above post and it was gone ... or not available at that time.

She also is mysteriously gone from Momka's list of distributors ... which was my first panic.

Just mentally thinking out loud ... but I wonder if there is enough of a market to get a decent frit maker and start doing it myself as a distributor if eplanet has really given it up.

Oh Laura, your right....no website??? I'll look through my paperwork for any kind of phone #, but just off the top of my head, I'm thinking there was no paper trail, receipt with an address, phone #, etc. I'll look later today. So liked Momka frit (sad face).

For those following this thread, I've emailed Momka to see what the status of Cathy and her frit distributorship is.

I may (big may) invest in the tools to make frit and go into small scale production of some of her colors but only if Cathy and no one else is in the picture already providing that service.

So that said ... IF I were to start offering Momka frit ... what colors would you all like to see. (I know what my initial hit list is).

As a mixed blessing, right now at work, I'm on really long hours ... which has left me with little time and no energy to torch ... but extra cash!!

would you also consider making frit blends? i don't know enough about what all the glass does at this point in my work and would love to buy blends. please put me on your contact list if you go into business and thanks for considering making frit. i made myself a thin-ish paddle of boro and plunged it into cold water and it just sat there and laughed at me so I will not be making my own frit. sara conklin mountainbead@gotsky.com

Thanks for the vote of confidence sara and yes ... I'm sure I will dabble in some blends. Kinda already have been but nothing but foolin around and learning for myself.

I would love to come up with some "go-to" blends ... stay tuned.

buy a frit crusher?

MagpieGlass
2012-04-23, 6:22pm
buy a frit crusher?

yes ... for my own use I use a coffee grinder or the hot paddle into cold water trick (coarse or fine grind).

But I already have RTS in my right arm from too many years working on a computer long hours so I'm not willing to use the manual method for larger batches. I will buy a frit maker and screens and pretty sure hubby can hook me up with the big honking magnet to yank out the metal fragments. Not much investment in the scheme of things. (if I decide to take the plunge)

Sorry but I really want to still be able to torch after making frit ... so ... I prefer to opt to buy a maker rather than build a manual cruncher. Laughable I know but I also know others on here view frit as a "by product" of the glass working experience not something to actively seek out.

Different strokes for different folks!!!

Would you need to contact Momka?

MagpieGlass
2012-04-24, 10:03am
Thanks Cathy ... whew. I knew you were out there but had to wait until I had money and then I used your contact info through your website but ... ahhh the internet.

So glad you are still around ... though you may want to put a bug in Momka's ear because they are not listing you anymore. :frown" which added to my confusion.

I'll get you a list together. I see lots I'd like to play with!!

I call dibs on the almond nugget. hee hee.

Cathy ... my intention was never to step on your toes. I just feel the Momka frit line is a niche market that someone needs to fill. I'm more than glad to let you do that!!

Just one question ... what size grinds (ie large and fine like NS) and how to purchase ... by the ounce??

I'm getting ready to head to work ... I will email an order tomorrow (I work until 1 am ... ugh).

@ Heather...Cathy mentioned May 1st. on the Etsy, so I don't know if anything would be available on her Etsy right now. If you know Momka's glass, she is taking orders from the list she provided at: eplanetglass@yahoo.com (anyway that's the way I understand)
I am just so glad you are still in business Cathy and thank You for responding. I'll be emailing an order in a couple of days.

I am still experimenting with what I have, but I did try the Lustrous Blue recently and really liked it. It shimmers, very pretty. This picture is terrible, but hopefully you can kinda see the blue shimmers. Nice color, easy to work. This was on Tan Silver Creek, with large clear frit and clear encasement.

Susan you are rockin it, love your beads and combos. Can I ask what size of mandrel you use most, because I've burned through a few 5/32's?
On a side note, I've emailed Cathy twice in the past 4-5 days, with no response. Heading over to check-out her Etsy, should be coming online.

Cathy,

Cathy at ePlanet was out of town for work over the weekend. To get the quickest response...PM her here. She is still really busy with work but has been good at answering my PMs.

The trick with the mandrels is to keep them below or above the flame. I've burnt through plenty and still do on occassion but I mostly use 1/16" mandrels.

Okay, as promised. Here is my first play with some Momka Frit that a very kind soul gifted me. Pardon the really quick pix ... the sun finally came out and I have to head to work in a few minutes. blah!

The tube bead is Alaska Night with the ends encased ... middle unencased. The lentil is Aurora Borealis ... not pretty going into the kiln but love the color and wispies coming out of the kiln and the Heartish bead is Blue Lightning ... Not it's best representation ... I've played with that in rod form and it is a really neat glass ... especially on dark colors. The little donut is aurora borealis again.

I have eight colors coming from Cathy at ePlanet as we speak and I'm off work all week next week to torch and garden ... whoot whoot ... so expect many more pixs then.

Last I heard, E Planet was phasing out of the frit business. You can get Momka frit on Etsy thru Magpie Glass. Her shop is here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/MagpieGlassworx?ga_search_query=momka+frit&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ref=sr_gallery_1
