Carl is going to plan some "manly" outtings... lol for the husbands. I'm sure the brewery tour will be in there - though it'll be under "new management". I'm sure the schlafly's tap room will be in there somewhere as well. He likes guns -- so maybe a shooting range as well... lol

February is going to come up quickly, I have a feeling. This is fantastic.

Yes, this was the first I had heard about this... not alot of LE time these days. A MoBeRe group PM would be a good idea, I would think.

I just booked a room at the Hampton we stayed at in January for Stacy and I that weekend - We'll be down late Thursday night. Figured being Val weekend - we needed to book early so I'm not trying to squeeze the 5th wheel in Becky and Carl's driveway.

You read my mind... about staying in a hotel... didn't even think about the Valentine weekend thing. Wonder if rooms will be more expensive that weekend? Darn.

Anyway...I just sent this off to Libby & thought I would post it here, too...

I was talking to Miss Kate about staying @ her place during "the experience" & then started thinking... this is what I wrote to her:

I was just thinking about my experience w/ the Gathering last year & driving home each night, missing out on late night fun... wishing I was staying @ the hotel where most people were booked & how exhausting it was, getting up each morning early to drive into Minneapolis.

& w/ Glass Stock... my whole family WAS going to come, we were going to make it a several week road trip, but w/ gas prices, we decided not to do it, so I'm flying out... but even if they were going to be there, camping down the highway, I was going to stay @ the hotel where most of the Glass Stock peeps were staying so I wouldn't miss out on any of the late night fun.

So, this makes me think about this (the Glass Experience)... will there be lots of out of towners & will they be staying @ a centralized hotel near Third Degree? (too early to know at this point, I'm sure) ... would even local people want to shack up w/ a group of people so they could stay nearby & not miss out on "whatever". Guess it depends on how early & how late it goes... they're serving breakfast & it'll probably go really late w/ open torch or something like that in the evening... just might make sense to stay nearby. Putting 4 to a room would be fairly inexpensive...

So.... wondering if it would make sense to have a suggested list of local hotels for out of towners... give people an opportunity to hook up w/ others for roommates (on LE?), etc... Would be cool for local peeps to stay down there, too... like I said about my Gathering experience. It could be a blast, to all be in one place, like the retreat. :-D

Whatcha think?

2008-08-13, 2:45pm
yes we have 3 hotels we are negotiating with for group rates.

one is closer to the venue but a tad more pricey but still very reasonable and the other two are with in a 15 minute drive and would be cheaper - one has a shuttle service even.

We should have a final prices and hotel code for you to use within a few weeks.
Breakfast will be at 3rd degree every morning and yes there will be open torch sessions every night as well...

Hey Becky

I was looking forward to meeting you at GS and was bummed when you couldn't come :(

Throwing an event like GS in your own back yard has got to be so much easier than traveling halfway across the US !! Looks fun :D

I don't think I"ve ever been to St. Louis....

The Hampton we're staying at is only 5 minutes from Becky and Carl's and 20 from the third degree. Thursday's room was pricey but then dropped 50 bucks for the weekend. If Nori and Jerry from Retro Glass Tools make it down, then we'll more in likely split it again like we did in January. I'd be looking at rooms now to reserve (you can always cancel) and get summer rates before Labor Day

Just my 2 cents worth.... can I have my change now.... lol

*I* was so bummed to have to back out of GS. It was just not a good economy year for the hubby and I to make it happen you know? RATS! It STILL makes me sad... anyway...

this event is gonna be a BLAST but totally unlike GlassStock I'm sure. Hopefully next year I'll get another chance to do GlassStock! I hope I hope I hope!

I think from Oregon - you just head East until you hit Minnesota then turn south... lol

Two of the hotels I am looking at are closer to me - bcuz the business district at Westport usually has cheaper rates for the weekends.
I am waiting on hearing back from the hotels for group rates.
Hopefully by Monday we'll know something.

Never can start too early Super J!

Cool Becky!! Thanks for working that out for us. It just makes sense... the hotel thing. Those are going to be LONG days... fun, fun, fun... but can you imagine having to drive home... 20 minutes, 30 minutes, whatever... each night ... late because you stayed for open torch... or maybe you leave early& miss out on open torch (like I did @ the Gathering, bummer) because you're wiped & know you have a drive ahead of you??? ... then getting up @ the crack of dawn to get yourself ready (& maybe take care of your kids, feed the dog, etc??) & back to Third Degree early for breakfast (which I suppose you could skip) each morning?

As far as location goes... I'd vote for the closer the better. :-D Even if it's a little bit more $$, splitting a double queen room w/ 4 others would make it really reasonable. Mallory & I stayed about 10 miles away from the Bead & Button Show in June because I had hotel points I could use by the airport... but darn-it, it would've been really nice to be able to just walk across the street to the hotel that the majority of people were staying in... and it wasn't even about missing out on what everyone else might've been doing... but we were just so wiped by the end of the day.... & we were just shopping!!

Either way... whatever gets worked out, Becky & Libby, I'm along for the ride. This is gonna be awesome.

:-D

I could sure use info on accomodations in St. Louis. Would be interested in sharing a room (female) someplace close to the factory. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Jeanne
