Bail making
Hello,
I wonder if you can make a bail out of bead? I explain :-o You make a bead and put this in a kiln. Then you make a pendant and when the pendant is ready you take the bead out of the kiln and melt it on your pendant. Is this possible with soft glass?? Kind regards, Ingrid from the Netherlands |
Yes. You might have to allow for the mandrels to be at right angles to each other. Or make the bail bead in advance, anneal, then bring back up to garage temperature and use a warmed tongs or tweezer to pick it up and fuse/melt it to the pendant bead. Always reintroduce the garaged bead into the flame very slowly and carefully.

I’ve used this method to attach bails to off-mandrel pieces with great success but I usually go the other way around ~ first I make the off mandrel pendant piece (leaving it on the punty) and put it into the kiln. Then make a small spacer bead in whatever color is needed. Attach the pendant to the bead making sure it’s aligned properly and a good hot seal. Let the join set up for a few seconds and then burn off the punty. Make sure the punty is at the bottom of the pendant, it can be awkward to remove if it’s not positioned correctly.

as others have said, absolutely!
That's how I make my found-object pieces. |
Thanks for the quick and good to follow answers
