https://www.etsy.com/listing/2937909...webbing-effect This tutorial will guide through making this webbing effect using fine silver foil as a catalyst! A beautiful, organic design with fun results. |
looks really cool! Does it require specific glass or out of production glass?
|
Caroline, I use Vetrofond in this one but it's the stringer you create that forms the pattern, along with silver foil, so Effetre and other glass can be used. I would avoid reds that turn black when silver is applied (and some Corals) and then some of the yellows that tend to eat up other glass should be avoided as well. I've had it work on Copper Green and Opal Yellow with neat effects and Light Ivory. I'm sure there are a ton of colors it would work with, including transparents as long as they are light enough.

Thanks Naos, that looks really neat!

Thanks, Kristin! :)

I won't describe exactly how I did this because it might be taking away from the tutorial. But I came up on this accidental webbing reaction the other day. This is gaia under a silvered reaction. Amber may explain how this happened to me in her tutorial.
I suspect I know how she did it, because it happened to me on an accident. Hopefully you'll see how Amber's tut can send you off into other directions. :) At the time of this posting, I had not read her tutorial yet. But looking at it, yes. This is how I got that transparent look. FWIW: it's dichro under Gaia, under Amber's tutorial (sort of). |
Nope, different stuff going on with my technique but that's a pretty cool reaction. Gaia is full of silver already so that might have something to do with it. :)

actually, it sort of is. I'll send you a pm. |
Oh ok LOL

Anyway!!! My hope was to show that this is a transparent under something that use the same materials you apply in your tutorial. :-\" hope I didn't stomp toes. |
From your PM, it's still completely different from mine so write yours up so I can buy it! LOL
|
LOL!
I think yours is cool though. I'm going to try my dichro and gaia here with your version and post results too. Just as soon as I get Oxy tomorrow morning. :) I don't buy too many tutorials but I love the reactions tuts. They're so much fun and a launching pad to do so much other things. |
Experimenting is always fun! :)

No toe stepping was intentional. :) |
It's all good :)

Looks like a must have
|
Snagged mine. Love Amber's Tute's ... they are fantastic jumping off points.
I usually don't get quite the same reaction she has but so many endless possibilities. Now I need to go buy more silver foil. |
Thanks so much, Laura! :)
|
Hi Amber, I got this as well. thanks!
|
Thanks, Kristin! :)
|
I have my first ones in the kiln ... gotta go see how they look. Think there might be too much black and too thick of a stringer. But I'm so excited.
As always Amber, thanks for sharing your wonderful talent!! |
Laura, yep - getting the mix right is the kicker here. Believe me, I re-pull stringer. LOL If you have questions on your results, PM me a photo and I can troubleshoot for you.
|
Well for those trying this ... skip attempting this technique with CIM Mermaid. LOL
|
Laura, LOL - yeah, you'll have to experiment with different base glass. Try some Effetre and see if that works for you.
