"Masculine" 104 glass...
I want to make myself a "man bracelet" with some donut beads, since that's the shape I'm most comfortable with right now.
I'm looking for suggestions on 104 glass that plays well with a Hot Head, and looks more earthy and masculine. Browns, blues, ivories, and maybe some striking glass like DH. Any suggestions on combinations of these, and perhaps some examples for inspiration?? |
Bracelets are not masculine IMO. The only way you could pull that off if you took up cage fighting or grizzly bear wrestling or run for President.

lol Hmmm.
Black, gray, one of the Fossils, Sediment, Ebony and Ivory (i think that's what it's called), copper green...that looks nice with some reduction, shouldn't be a problem on a HotHead. Raku left natural is also really nice. Variegation with no effort. I don't have pics of these things, only Raku on Baby Poo. But you can see the color is...I don't know if I'd say masculine, but def unisex. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL162.../130658000.jpg And I think jewelry is kinda sexy on a man. But not one who's run for prez. |

I know right! Obviously Dave doesn't know me before today... I can pull anything off! LOL |
CIM Canyon de Chelly. Effetre Dark Lapis Avorio. Lauscha Denim Blue.

Even though I don't believe he has any current need to wrestle bears, DH picked out tumbled dark ivory & copper green as the colors he liked.
I make him 'hiden messages' beads - they have words written around them like 'mine', 'love' etc. The words can't be read easily unless one knows to look closely because the entire word can't be seen w/o turning the bead. dj |
Maybe ivory with a bit sis and/or some reduction glass stringer work? I like this combo paired with black spacers.
|
I live ivory and turq or copper green too, maybe some SIS.
Have you tried gently rolling your donuts on a marver to flatten the top of your donut a touch? That shape might be good for masculine too.. |

And a long time ago, TraciDawn posted a picture of what we affectionately nick named the "man bracelet." It was earthy tones and had some DH glass in it I think and was just something that I could picture going on a leather band or something. Thats why I'm wanting glass suggestions because I can't find the pic to show y'all. |
Allicat used to do some silver glass on a hothead (striking) but I can't remember which ones she got to work.
Ivory and brown and/or black is nice too, as is ivory with most anything of course, LOL. ~ Like with some hair fine intense black stringer and melted good so it webs. |
That is what I was going to say....the webbing is real nice. My DH likes it too.

Ok, here are some photos that I just swiped off of Traci's facebook page.
*DISCLAIMER* All lampwork seen below created by TraciDawn76 I llllluuuuurrrrve this first one, and it was actually for a dude. As she says in her FB comments, "these beads were made for a dude. thats right, a dude!" But I like the others as well. I see lots of Ivory. |
I see some silver glass there for sure, but I'm not sure which ones. Definitely seems like some SIS on some of them too.
The 2nd photo looks like it has some reducing glass, and that would work with your torch. A dot of that reducing glass (sometimes works better over a dot of white or other non reactive light opaque) flattened and reduced, then a dot of clear on top of that being careful not to erase the reduction shine. Some work better than others. Triton turns blues greens with that treatment, and I have some thirds from a garage sale box, so I could send you a bit if you want. |

Ignore the bead I was just doing a color test with this one.
encased triton, but I did not put the white dot down first, since black doesn't make it go funky. |
OOOHHHHH I likey!

I'll stick you a little in the mail tomorrow. RAOGK addy still right? I know you've moved recently.

And what about that precision glass. I was looking at the monet silver amethyst on the frantz website. Ever used it? I also have some old rods of something called Zeus. Its clear, but turns like a gray/brown/silver/yellowish color... unless I just schmutzed it up too. LOL |
I have no experience with the Precision except for Black Pearl (think oil slick when reduced)

CiM Stoneground with raku makes for a nice earthy combo. I also like Kabluey for a manly blue. The new Leafmen is a good neutral green -- come to think of it, I should try that with raku stringer! You might also look at Moccasin, altho I haven't tried that on my HH yet. I have a buddy who wears a macramé and lampwork bracelet that is very much boho-masculine.

Do a search for Zeus, I found some photos. One was blue, one was neutral, maybe how it was worked? There were more but I have to get dinner on the table.

ooohhh that was a TAG glass.

Did you do a search here on LE? That's where I found it.
I stuck a few pieces of SIS in the envelope, but it may not make it intact. I guess you could use it as frit if not :) |

Reducing on a hot head meads covering a few of the oxygen holes right??? And I know I have at least a rod and a half of the Zeus in my stash box. I found them when I stuck the tips in the flame and it starting striking. I found this. http://www.abrimagery.com/store/prod...-104coe-p-8486 I'mma hafta pull some stringers of it and practice striking it because if I can get it to go blue, I'm gonna do a kart wheel. Seriously. I'll film the kartwheel for y'all to see! LOL |
The hothead is naturally slightly reducing, but yes, to make it moreso, cover the air holes on the side.
|
I've been using a lot of 591286 Effetre Avorio Verde Petrolio for my "masculine" designs.
