pink opalino - Effetre

Does anyone know, does this glass get sooty easily?
Thanks for your help.
Patti. :)

I would assume it would, like all other opalinos from Effetre. I have been gravitating towards R-bach and I really like their mystic pink for a pearly look...it just doesn't take shaping and reheating well before it loses color.

I suppose you could carefully try the opalino if you have it already, preheating and working high in the flame, etc. It is a pretty color and I don't know of many substitutes that don't have their issues, also.

I've not had a problem with soot, but I work with NG.

I had problems with boiling as well as with devitrifying along the border with other colors.

Oh bummer. There's a periwinkle alabaster that boils ridiculously. It's so disappointing. :(

What about pink alabaster? Same issues? I have good results with the Nile green opalino.

I just work those colors way out at the top of the flame. They don't like to be worked hot at all.

I gave up on the idea. Well, I did order 1/4 pound of pink opalino. But the second it even frizzles, I'm out. Can't stand dealing with such issues. Besides, I have a terrible habit of working too low in the flame and too hot. Sigh...

encase it?

I tried my Effetre pink opalino a couple of times and do not see where I can use it. May be over something sparkly it worth the effort ? I did tried it with HH though. May be with my new NG/oxy set up it might work.

Does it play nice over other color?

Czech glass has an amazing pink opal that's super easy to work. I'm loving it

Look! Pink opalino! The rose on the left. No issues with it at all!

Larysa 2016-05-27 10:56am

Patti, it's perfect. Was it a very slow melting ? I gave up on my opalino's after trying on NG and it boiled. It would be too frustrating to add it to the bead and screw it up at the end. I might try it again for clouds (might turn into sponges though :) )

Sweet beads, and that pink glows! Glad you persevered.

I have a mini CC and it was fine. I just have to remember to melt high in the flame and not too hot. I have a habit of being low and too hot. It wasn't too hard. =)
No boiling.
My fav's are Effetre Nile green, CIM Frozen (white) and this pink.
Oh and several other CIMs. Kryptonite is excellent. A turquoise one which I can't recall the name.
The opalinos are great because they are stiffer. When I am focused on an area for stringer work, the spot doesn't melt away. It can be a struggle with opaques.
