Copper foil
I want to make a bead with copper leaf but am a little confused about what I should buy. Is the copper leaf we use in beads the safe that is used for gilding?
Where is the best place to buy copper leaf? |
You might find it where you buy your rods, I know at least some carry it. I just checked one and they had 25 sheet books for $8 I think.
If you go to a hobby/craft store, be sure you're buying 100% copper. |
Frantz carries it Mina. Be sure and have really good ventilation when using it tho.

It needs to be real copper leaf, not an alloy, So beware if you buy from Michaels or another non-glass supply store. Frantz will have the real stuff.

Hiw will I know if it's the real deal?

I have a bunch Norma; I'll send you a few sheets!

It will say 100% copper on the label. If it says composite, it's not 100% copper. Also, copper leaf is thin and it doesn't "stick" with burnishing like silver does. The part not stuck to a bead crumbles when trying to push it over onto the sides. It's a tad bit messy.

Sounds like fun ;-)

On it's way Norma!

Thanks Alli! There are some beads that are begging me to make them happen. Can't wait :-)

Of course you know this means that you must post pictures when you get them out of the kiln.
