Effetre Sunset?

Is there a reason for this glass to exist?

Dreamsincolor 2016-07-19 4:48am

To make money for the supplier? (ducking my head to avoid flying objects)

Not in my opinion. It's expensive, and you can make it yourself by layering Light Pink over Coral and pulling it into thick cane.

kansassky 2016-07-19 8:25am

It's worthless.

Never in my life did I think I would pitch unmelted rods in the trash. With Sunset, I did.

Shabrea 2016-07-19 8:34am

The paddle looks pretty, I personally love the multicolor rods, usually, but never tried sunset

MagpieGlass 2016-07-19 8:48am

Mine doesn't look anything like the paddle ... if it did ... I'd like it. It is ugly as crap!!

Don't throw glass out ... just put it under other stuff as "filler". Like you lovely silver glasses so you don't waste them.

Dreamsincolor 2016-07-19 10:25am

If it doesn't look like the paddle what does it look like? Does it cause problem reactions with other colors? I'm guessing silver probably wouldn't help. Is it a coral family member?

I found mine to look a little streaky.

I think that, for the paddle, the tester melts a bit at the tip and folds it. So it will probably work better for larger beads.

echeveria 2016-07-19 1:53pm

I tried swirling it some. Resembles a light dog turd if fully mixed, bloody mucus if lightly mixed. I am ditching it. I have come to resent the space it occupies in my storage. Or maybe I will put it in our Bead of Courage glass stash, but I hate to do that to unsuspecting children.

Bolded above ... yes ... perfect description of what I got.

I will bury it deep inside other colors to never see the light of day again.

Shabrea 2016-07-19 6:28pm

I'll take it and try it

You got it. Will probably take me a couple of days to get it and mail it. Good luck!

Shabrea 2016-07-19 7:21pm

Sure thanks! Love a challenge

kansassky 2016-07-19 7:42pm

Mine was full of bubbles and turned into instant frit even after preheating. Worthless crap.

Dreamsincolor 2016-07-20 3:29am

The heads up about great (or totally useless waste of time) glass are priceless help that is much appreciated.

Shoot if anyone is just trying to ditch the stuff.....I'll take it off your hands too.

"Light dog turf" sounds interesting since I'm a vet...."bloody mucous".....welcome to my world!

I have made some interesting beads for friends and colleagues, stemming from mistakes. Most notably "bot fly larvae"

Is that red on the inside and white on the outside? I got a rod in a swap. Nasty stuff!

carolinesbeads 2016-07-20 10:29pm

I have some I hate too, I am afraid to use it as a core because I had heard that reds don't like to be encased and sometimes crack. Has anyone else used it as a core? ps if some one wants it and is willing to pay for shipping I will send you 1/4 for free

I'd like to try it if you are in the US

Pat 2016-07-21 9:53am

It's dangerous, frit on a stick!

Mountain Snail 2016-07-21 10:16am

Not something I would buy again. You need to preheat it. It shatters. It pits. You have to wind it perfectly in order to get the nice stripes.

KJohn 2016-07-21 6:44pm

I will say I was not aware there was such strong feeling against this glass. LOL

Mountain Snail 2016-07-23 4:16pm

I couldn't understand why the strong feelings against Sunset... I love the colors I get with it. :hide: Looking closer, I see mine is CiM Sunset, not Effetre!

echeveria 2016-07-28 6:56pm

Ooh, I like that!

AmorphousDesigns 2016-07-30 11:48am

love this color!

Shabrea 2016-07-30 4:35pm

See I want to try it even more after seeing the goddess bead
