Beautiful bead. I always have trouble bringing the silver out but I'm a total newbie

Kumars4 2017-07-26 6:06am

Love the murrini accents.

sharlee22 2017-07-26 9:50am

beautiful. :)

This is one of my favorite tutorials; every time a new Double Helix color comes out this is the first thing I try with it - some work, some don't, but it's always worth a try!

Eileen 2017-07-30 9:28am

I need to try some of my DH test batches with it I think.

They all look fabulous, Shelley!

Wow, Shelley! All three are gorgeous!

bshelle 2017-07-31 6:39pm

Thank you!!

KJohn 2017-08-03 2:35am

Gorgeous, Shelley! I swear, this technique never gets old. I love seeing what everyone does with it.

Ok so this is me not following the instructions, but they look awesome anyways so I'll post them. ;)

This was made with silver frit instead of foil, so I got a neat speckled background. The silver glass I used tends more towards blues purples and yellows than reds, but hey it looks neat at least!

Eileen 2017-08-03 5:39pm

They do look neat, but I'm wondering what you mean by silver frit. Is that mica maybe? I'm guessing that is why you got a different look, but nice that it was a cool look ;)

Beatrix 2017-08-03 7:39pm

Basically fine silver shavings, makes for some nice sparkles.

KJohn 2017-08-05 6:53am

Has anyone tried this with Ossa? or one of the other lusters? That might be super cool.

MagpieGlass 2017-08-06 8:08pm

Devardi sells actual fine silver frit (silver shavings). It is the bomb for alot of techniques ... I like it for sandy looking shorelines in beach beads.

Kristin I haven't tried Ossa but been having fun trying every other color of the rainbow. LOL

Beatrix 2017-08-06 8:55pm

^ That's the stuff I used.

Eileen 2017-08-06 10:15pm

Interesting, thanks! I didn't know such a thing was available.
Would it be the same thing if I just cut tiny pieces off my fine silver wire?

Beatrix 2017-08-07 8:01am

The texture of it is more along the lines of what comes off when you saw through silver, I suppose you could make a bunch of jump rings and saw through them and catch the filings from it. (sawing makes the cleanest cut rings anyways, so not like it'd be a waste)

Love it! Thank you.

Beaucat13 2018-01-17 8:04pm

Absolutely beautiful beads!

Sdumortier 2018-01-20 4:24pm

Wow... very nice...

Joannie 2018-01-23 5:05pm

looking forward to trying the Fire Opals.

This is the tut I use to make beads as the "grand prize" for a contest with my students. They have to search up the best fun fact about the universe, galaxies, stars or nebulae. The winner one year was was this "there are more stars in the universe than all the words that have ever been spoken by the human race even if you count caveman grunts."

*Naos* 2019-07-18 5:12am

That's great, Robin! :)

So THAT's what I have been doing wrong.

I have been sticking the hot bead in my ear and of course the twirling around in a circle and hopping one leg 3 times just comes naturally but I think that is because I am trying to dislodge the hot bead from my burning skin.

( I learned to hop up and down with my left ear down the third time I tried it.)

My Doctor just shakes her head and tells me I need to find another hobby.

Been away from the torch for way too long. I finally cleaned my studio so it was safe again and I made these yesterday. (please ignore the top 2) Most are Ekho, one was Clio, one or 2 were Skiron which went muddy. Ekho was the best.
