Bullseye Aurora Light & Dark

I've been hoarding mine because I don't know what to do with it. I get a very dark strike or overstruck greens. I'm sure it must do something prettier.

I did a search but didn't find much.

Any tips, thoughts, photos?

It's kiln temp sensitive and also soak sensitive but not with really predictable results, which I really like about it. I set the kiln (which runs a wee bit hot) on 890° for garage and only to 900° to start annealing with a pretty short soak.

Mostly I was making these just simply encased with 1401 crystal clear. Very simply...shape, let cool a wee bit and maybe flash in the same flame. Encase and done.
Stringers of DA look nice over some colors encased. Lily White SP is a good one (thanks Kalera!) but I have no pics of that. Shards are fun too. The first pic in the Accidental Images thread is DA shards. I may or may not have put some silver foil on the bubble before blowing, can't remember.

Hope that helps, Elizabeth. If you find you still don't like it, I'll buy it. Oh, I had not much luck with Aurora, just Dark Aurora.

Thanks Rebecca! I'll try blowing shards with it, since I am doing that a lot now and that will give me something to use with the rest of the ## lbs. of Bullseye I have but rarely use except for spacers. I don't have any Lily White or 1401 (just some Schott 90) but I have Nougat and Custard and Marzipan and Creme Brulee, so lots to try.

Oh wow, those are gorgeous beads, Rebecca. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks :)
Here's another set. It's Khaki wrapped in silver foil with stringers of DA. Not encased, probably around the same temps. Just another idea for you. Gawd I wish I could torch right now, I so want to make some of these again.

Cool beads Rebecca! I blew a shard and used it on pink and it looked good going into the box. I garage and soak on the low side anyway, have done for years, since I use a lot of silver glass that doesn't like it hot.

pics of Aurora light or dark.

Does anyone have a pic of the Aurora light or dark. I bought someones stash of BE, and some are not labeled.
Thanks.

How did it go? You know we want to see. :)

I have a whole bunch of Bullseye that I never touch. This is inspiring me!

Thanks.

Aurora light is clear, Aurora dark is dark transparent brown - melt the tips and it will strike to color.

squid 2016-09-25 3:49pm

I freaking love that stuff - I get good striking with both versions. :)

Thanks Squid! I see I will have to try using it in stringer and dot designs. The shards worked well and I will get a photo tomorrow. Hoping to work with it again this week.

Finally got the photos. I'm just not feeling the love.

I like the shards on the pink!

squid 2016-09-29 9:04pm

Try striking it longer - you have the early stages with the brown.

The pink one is quite purple (or wine red) in real life actually. I was worried about it overstriking in the kiln. Thanks for the tip!

I do like the little clear-capped dots, so maybe that is something I can play with.

Since Aurora is long gone, are there any new Bullseye colors that are as reactive as the old Aurora was?

Am I crazy thinking Aurora was the Reichenbach Raku of Bullseye?

ESC 2024-03-12 1:05pm

You're not crazy. There's some wicked cool striking glasses in the Double Helix line. I just made a pair of earrings out of Terra the other day.

I thought Double Helix was COE 104. I have lots of lovely rods in Double Helix. I was doing some fusing with COE 90 or COE 96 and looking for some lovely reactions and wondered if Aurora was still available, or if there was something new out there.

I have seen the Oceanside Red Reactive on copper so I'll have to give that a try. Beautiful as that is it's closer to the turquoise on ivory reaction than the Aurora.

I found Aurora to be more like Reichenbach Raku.

echeveria 2024-03-12 5:38pm

Double Helix is 104. As far as reactive Bullseye, I don't think they are still doing special production cane. They still have the lusters.
