EDP

Now that EDP is no longer available, what would be a good substitute?

SGA 2017-07-09 8:52pm

Purple rose

Ravenesque 2017-07-09 9:47pm

I agree. I wonder how some enamel will work on that? Some dark orchid maybe to give it that pink?
I was JUST about to list a new style of production bead using edp too, guess not.

Well, maybe CIM will come up with something.

Is purple rose a Reichenbach 104COE or 96COE glass and does it debit like the EDP does?

Eileen 2017-07-10 7:27pm

I believe it comes in both COEs, and it did devit for me, but I was able to finish the bead, cool it a bit, then reheat gently to a surface glow to remove it if memory serves.

It's very very close. But like Z-99, there will not be a perfect match to EDP.

Has anyone learned WHY they are discontinuing EDP?? I am just in shock, as that is one of the longtime staples in my glassy world. :(

Mike said something about the availability of ingredients.

KJohn 2017-07-13 2:59pm

Regulations by the Italian government for use of the ingredients needed to make the glass. Sort of what Bullseye went through recently. Shame!

How is it the same as Bullseye? I haven't heard the ins and outs of the reason they regulated it now rather than years ago.

SGA 2017-07-13 3:18pm

I found it. Not exactly like Bullseye. This has been in play for years.

I don't know the ins & outs either, just comparing the issue of regulations being applied more frequently to our glass manufacturers.

I suspect this has been going on for some time, though, as I can't recall the last time Frantz had EDP in stock or when Effetre would have done their last run with it.

I wonder if it will affect any other colors?

I guess not having EDP will change all those recipes for making the various beads that have those super reactions when you use EDP. 😕

Thanks, Shardi. I am still just in shock over no more EDP. I haven't bought any in quite a while because I had, ummm, stocked up excessively years ago. But now that I know I can't buy it anymore, what's left of my little stockpile looks horrifyingly small.

lampworker1 2017-07-16 9:21pm

Thanks so much for the information. This is way ventilation is sooooooo important.

As horrifying as 2 rods? That's what I have
I don't even know what to do with them honestly, twisties? Stringer?

Oh man, this is exactly how I feel about my three remaining rods of Vetro Lemongrass, it's just sitting there & I can't bring myself to use it!

With EDP, I feel like it will go the route of Z-99, frit will become increasingly popular.

Two rods would make enough frit for several bead sets :-)

isaberg 2017-07-22 4:29am

It's arsenic, apparently. Not a problem in using the glass, but I can see why it might be an issue for the factory, employeess, and neighborhood.
