Substitute for TAG Fire Lotus

Recently, I've come across several tutorials that mention using TAG Fire Lotus glass. Since it's no longer available for purchase, what would a good substitute for it? Thanks. Lydia

Cosmo 2016-09-01 1:55pm

It's a red with whatever makes the amber/purple colors strike added to it from what I remember. Something like NS Loki's Lipstick would probably be a good substitute.

Thanks, but TAG Fire Lotus is a 104 COE glass and I think NS Loki's Lipstick is a 33 COE glass.

I *think* Terranova 2.1.

Not Terra. Terranova. By double helix.

Check out Brad's new glass. There are a couple that are super close to Fire Lotus!

Shardi, I checked out Terra Nova 2.1 on the thread you included and it's gorgeous . I'm going to check out my DH stash to see if I have some to try out. I recently bought an assortment of DB glass, so should have at least one rod of it. Tillie, it just happens that I had ordered some of Brad's new glass and it should arrive sometime next week. It looks like I have glass that should be a good substitute for the Fire Lotus. Thanks for your help. Lydia

Hi Tillie an Lydia. What color is the"Brad's" glass that is close to Fire Lotus? And where do I order it from? Thanks
Sally

Hi Sally, actually I would also like to know which of Brad's new glass is a good substitute for Fire Lotus. My box arrived but I haven't had a chance to unpack it yet. If you look at the thread, Show me your beads made with Striking Color glass by Troll Lover, you'll find Brad Shute's link to his Etsy store, or you can go directly to Etsy and look for Striking Color glass. He's currently having a sale and has lots of glass available for sale. Lydia

What COE is Striking Color glass?

Eileen 2016-09-05 6:59am

104

Sallytzu 2016-09-05 8:00am

Thanks for the information. Just ordered AMC618. It looked the closest color to what I have gotten with Fire Lotus. Can't wait to try it.

Eileen 2016-09-05 8:09am

Watch his videos to get some hints to work it too. It is fun glass!

Sallytzu 2016-09-05 11:19am

Good idea. Thanks Eileen

Ahh. I didn't even know TAG made 104 glass...

glvz 2016-09-07 4:45pm

That is the problem. They don't seem to be producing it any longer but it was lovely glass.

TAG still makes 104 they just currently are backlogged on borosilicate and it is their larger market and where Paul's humble roots started. So that is the focus.

104 will return. I've talked to Jenny several times on this ... so much so that I'm going to create a Urban Legend meme for TAG.

Seriously ... spam them with email requests ... particular what color you want. I still have a nice stock pile of some particularly lushious pull date of Fire Lotus.

P.S. Just checked their website and they currently have Golden Emerald and Lake Geneva in stock.

SerendipityArtGlass 2016-09-07 9:23pm

I just bought Fire Lotus from Jenny last weekend at GSW.

If they think the only customers are for boro they're wrong!

Do you think that they have some Fire Lotus left to sell? Anyone here willing to sell some? I have several murrini tutorials that call for Fire Lotus but have no idea what it's supposed to look like which is why I stature this thread asking if anyone knew what a good substitute for it would be. I'm off to their web site to see if they have any more to sell. I'm not on Face Book, so miss any information listed there. Lydia

Eileen 2016-09-08 6:18pm

Lydia, I have a little, but don't want to get rid of it. I will send you a 4-6" short if you just want to see what it is. Let me know.

glass butterfly 2016-09-08 7:54pm

Hi Eileen sent you an email since I've almost run out of pm spaces. Down to 1 out of 500. Thanks. Lydia

Eileen 2016-09-08 8:00pm

Got it :)

Firebrand Beads 2016-09-09 3:43pm

Well Hell-Ooooo ladies! It's been a while. Yes, Marie did get something like Fire Lotus at the Glass Stock West show, but it was a more pastel odd lot. Pretty, but not quite the same.

glass butterfly 2016-09-09 4:31pm

Jenny, is there any more of it for sale? Lydia

Firebrand Beads 2016-09-09 4:38pm

BTW, we are absolutely going to make more 104 when we can. There is an expansion underway and some new DEQ regulations to follow and then yes - Fire Lotus will be back. Taxco too!

Firebrand Beads 2016-09-09 4:38pm

yes - I am getting to your email right now! :-)

ESC 2016-09-09 4:44pm

Oooh, Taxco!

carolinesbeads 2016-09-09 6:44pm

Soooo when is the expansion going to be finished, are we talking a year less more? Inquiring minds want to know!

glass butterfly 2016-09-12 6:47pm

Eileen, thank you, thank you. Lydia😊😊😊

Eileen 2016-09-12 10:52pm

You're quite welcome :)
