Will LOS not darken raw brass wire?

Not a glass question, but maybe some jewelry peeps have some insight...

Before the holidays I made a number of wire hair sticks/hair combs using raw copper wire and raw brass wire (10g). I use the liver of sulfur gel in very hot water. Cleaned my wires well and put them in the LOS solution. The copper turned black immediately. Brass did nothing. Left the brass in the solution for 30 minutes… could barely tell any darkening at all. I then remembered I had some Brass Black, and that did the trick.

So I am wondering if I did something wrong, or does brass not antique with LOS? Or am I too impatient and need to let it soak a long long time? Copper just goes black so fast, i expected the brass to as well.

Check the cut ends, some craft wire has some sort of clear coat that maybe getting in the way.
It may need to be in atmosphere instead of solution to tarnish.

It maybe an alloy issue c226 and othet are tarnish resistant often sold as "nu gold" or jewlers brass.

Thanks. I do use parawire's coated wire for some things. But i specifically bought raw brass wire in the thicker gauge. And if it was coated, the brass black would not have had an effect either, right?

I'll dig up my receipt and see if there is a c226

Getting the brass hot as well as the solution of LOS might help but it's never going to be as dark as the copper gets. JAX black for copper, bronze, and brass works on both really well.

Para wire says it will tarnish.
You may need to try a different recipe.
I have had luck finding stuff through sculpt Nuevo
Novacan black does well on a number of surfaces but I'm not sure on the brass.

I second the recommendation of Jax.
