Yeah, I'm totally obsessed with photographing snowflakes as well. I use a Nikon D610, 105 macro lens and extension tubes attached. Small LED clip on lights from Ikea. Use a metal plate left out in the cold overnight to collect flakes, set camera setup on tripod, mirror lockup and a remote shutter release. DOF is very small that close up so photo stack images and combine in PS or Helicon focus or Zerene focus stacking software to combine slices of images into a single file. For more info, look up George Lepp. He has some nice articles on photographing snowflakes. Next I want to get a microscope. Fun and gorgeous.

Snowflakes
 
They make beautiful pendants and beads with white millifoiri snowflakes on a cobalt blue backing.
