Of Course. There's no adventure in NOT trying. LOL

Looking forward to your results

I am another fan of Elke's Silvered Coral on Hades, so I made a bead using the same. The effect is much more subtle than Elke's, also more subtle than Norma's. I think it's actually more noticeable in hand rather than in the photograph. I like it.
(I haven't named him yet.) |
Love the kitty with no name

I like him too. Maybe his name could be PJ. He reminds me of my nephews pajamas...lol

I'm so glad you posted this! I thought it was my fault! Cathy |

Then one day I happened to use a really really OLD SIS stringer I had made many years ago. It was in a tray of old twisties I was trying to use up. I had my gorgeous webby reactive SIS back! After some extensive testing, I discovered all the newer Dk Ivory I have gives the nasty grey reaction. Only the old egg shaped rods give the nice webby reaction. I guess I'm trying to say, if you are not succeeding at SIS it might not be your fault." Thank you for this. A lot of the colors have changed over the years and most not for the better. The bottom line is the cost of the materials used and the ability to get the same quality or even the same materials. That is where testing comes in for the lampworkers...Lots of it..LOL Thanks for sharing everyone and making this a very instructional and tutorial thread! |

Norma, sorry I'm late to the party. Your beads turned out very pretty. \\:D/ You did not copy me cause I copied this recipe from Crystalflipz some time ago. :-\" Elke :waving: |

Teri, you got also an awesome result. =D> To bring out the more blue shimmer on Hades you need to reduce a few times more. Elke :waving: |
I've another one.
Silvered Picasso Blue stringer on a base of Hades. Elke :waving: |
Thanks for the advice Elke, I'll do that next time I'm trying to get Hades to do what I want.
That bead is positively gorgeous!! I guess you do know what you're doing! |
oh ugh! So glad others said that their SIS isn't the same. Well not glad that it changed but that it's not just me. A customer wanted an order of an older set with SIS, I couldn't replicate it and gave up. I use it SO much that it's really making me sad/mad! :doubt: I just left the torch in another crabby fit and searched here.
I wonder if there's a way to 'fix' it? More silver? |
Fun thread here. I've been checking almost daily.
I've been trying to reduce Hades for a couple of days now with no success. Will keep working on it. The silvered coral stringers are gorgeous ! I made 2 simple beads with it and love it. I made a dark amber silvered stringer, tried it on ivory and don't care for it. No photo yet. I like it better on light amber. Looking forward to playing with more colors. |
Locococ's Picasso and Hades beads makes me want to make silvered stringer out of my TAG Blue Buddha that does not seem to do much of anything. Maybe it will play nice with silver foil in it.

Oh yes, I did. I ended up with a lot of cracking issues on the encased foil, so that isn't a great option for me.
It caused a neat color separation when I made Effetre sky blue stringer with it. The outer edged bleached really pale - almost white- with the color concentrated at the center. I really haven't had much opportunity to play more with it. I'm wondering how it will behave with corrals. ETA: I bet you could make some really interesting faux Larimar with sky blue frit and copper foil. |
I've loved the beads that I have seen with copper foil and silver foil. Dense white was used as the frit and it has a great reaction. I am not sure I have the right white, but should play around with it some more.
I love this thread too. I will need to try some of these other ideas for stringer and see how it turns out. |
I love silvered stringer mixed with intense black stringer, the reactions are crazy.
