Melting a piece of silver.

Hi I went to a bead class and the teacher was telling us something about taking a piece of silver putting it near the torch and it melts on to the bead that is in front of the silver ???? Ant info on this??

Here is one post about it:

On that one, she is keeping the silver wire intact pretty much. If you keep heating it, it will separate into tiny balls of silver.

Or it could mean fuming. You'd put a small piece of silver (or a couple sheets of silver foil) on a piece of boro (usually) and put that in the flame while holding the thing to be fumed farther out in the flame. But it doesn't melt onto the bead/thing...it deposits the silver fume on to it.

ps- you need excellent ventilation for this process.

That sounds more like the description, good catch!

These were beads made by melting silver wire onto the bead as they were made. Dots are a result of hotter melt.

I'm not sure, could be one or the other. 'Melts onto the bead' could mean one thing but 'in front of the silver' could mean another thing.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
