I know this isn't the right place to put it, but you can forgive me, right??

Well tonight, UPS dropped off my dream torch setup. A mirage and a rock-it pedal with oxy-bypass! It took 8 months and a small fortune to get it. I'm so very excited to get behind this beast and light it up! My goals are to start making marbles, get in to some tubing work like ornaments, goblets, and other vessels. I can't wait to just experiment with all kinds of different things!

And the best thing about it all????!!!! It was all paid for with money made from selling my wares. I think it's safe to say I have a self sustaining hobby. But it doesn't stop there; it's on my radar to legitimately take this full time. I'm looking for locations to open up a studio/classroom/retail space. I have grown a lot in this art form in the last year or so and I hope to keep learning and growing. I attribute a lot of my success as a working artist to the people of this forum. Thank you for all the support from each and every one of you. Your freely given tips, encouragement, and friendships are priceless.
Love, Justin "Cornbread" Baker

ooooh, that would be my dream setup too! Along with lots of oxy to run it... Perhaps a good start would be making enough $ to even actually get the torch...

Nice! Mirages are great - my favorite size of GTT.

Mr. Smiley 2011-06-07 4:49am

Can't wait to see where you go with this new set up! It's like cornbread... ;)

PaulaP 2011-06-07 7:17am

Justin Congrats on your new set up. I am ready to sign up for one of your classes so keep us posted.

Three Muses Glass 2011-06-07 7:20am

That is one sexy beast! Really cool that you bought it all with your glass earnings.

dragonlite 2011-06-07 1:36pm

WTG! Have fun with it and let us know! Text me... I want to see how that thing works!

J.Meader 2011-06-07 3:12pm

Congrats!! How do you plan to feed it, oxy that is?

Conrad Hoffman 2011-06-07 5:09pm

Really nice & the foot pedal should make it a joy to use!

J.Meader- the first image that came to mind was someone with a new St. Bernard being asked, "how do you plan to feed it?" Once you have it you always find a way. 8-)

haha, good question. Well I have 3 k tanks i keep on rotation, though i bought an old manifold from david h. i still need to put it together and then just run the 3 tanks all at once. but i want to pressure test the manifold since it's so old. I'd hate to have a 2300 psi oxygen tank attack in my garage.

That's funny conrad haha! i'll find a way for sure!

and thank you everyone!

Shrimp 2011-06-07 6:34pm

Uber coolio Justin!

Cosmo 2011-06-07 8:05pm

I saw that on Facebook.

I hate you.

:D

Cornbread 2011-06-07 8:13pm

lol cosmo. i owe a lot to you for your tips and advice. I'm still jealous of your tubing abilities. i just can't get that wigwag on a tube down pat.

ginkgoglass 2011-06-08 7:25am

Have you hooked it up yet?

Here's a pic of my Mirage compared to the Barracuda:
(no the bench is not that clean anymore!)

Cornbread 2011-06-08 7:43am

wow...nice big table! no i have not hooked it up yet. I am actually making a video of the whole process. Film has recently intreagued me so I've been using a 2 camera set-up and meshing them together. I'll link the video when I'm done with it. but I'm hoping to hook it up today. I think ill make a flower marble first and include that in the video. Next I'll have a pendant giveaway contest to those that submit possible names for my new pride and joy! haha I know, i know, but this is a very special time for me. I want to make the most of it!

Bunyip 2011-06-08 8:00am

I want a sexy Mirage to go with my sexy Barracuda!
(yes I borrowed your sexy for my Barracuda)

Cosmo 2011-06-08 8:08am

I'm just jealous of all the nice clean torches. How come nobody posts pics of torches like mine? You know... the ones that are a bunch of different colors and have burn marks all over the base...

I keep telling myself I'm not going to buy a new torch until the one I have dies. It's almost 20 years old at this point, and I think it's going to outlive me...

ginkgoglass 2011-06-08 9:45am

Chris, I love my Cuda and they are sexy!!
Justin, I may have to steal your idea to name the torches.
I have not named either one and I've had the cuda for years.

Justin,
Man-o-man, you've come a long way my friend. Great setup and I'm sure your great work will improve even more with the Mirage. Two things, You shodda got a Kabuki....lolololol...just kiddin! Mirages are great torches.

NEVER run a GTT without the blue knob cracked open, NEVER!!

You'll want to run the 3 'K' tanks one at a time when on the manifold. That way you can take 2 tanks in to be filled as you work from the last one. My manifold has 4 'K's hooked up.

Keep up the great work, PJH

deb tarry 2011-06-08 12:08pm

Yes that baby does need a name.

craignog 2011-06-08 6:10pm

that is the cleanest work bench i've ever seen.

Jackson River Glass 2011-06-08 7:27pm

LOL I would have to photoshop mine to make it that clean...
