What brand of boro?
 

I saw some beads made with a boro that was very opaque and solid color. It was used in encased florals and it got my brain cells jumping since I mostly make encased florals (in soft glass). I thought I might get a bit of this to play with.

I was told that this brand is more expensive than other boro, and is fairly limited in it's color availablity but is a boro that offers more of a "what you see is what you get" color. This was at a show where I was a vendor. The person I was talking to, told me the name of the glass but I cannot remember it ](*,)


What boro do you think this was?

The kind I want to buy?


If you post a pic of the bead, then we might be able to
figure it out. Most of the vendors offer nice opaques that can be used in
florals.

Does TAG, or Troutman Art Glass ring a bell?
They make glass that's a bit more expensive and in smaller
qtys.

I'm wondering if it is Parramore, or New Color Company --he makes a lot of WYSIWYG colors, lots of pastels.

Yipeee! It's Parramore. I remember that she said it was $60 per pound. And I thought it started with a "P" but I didn't want to influence any answers you all gave me in case I remembered wrong.

So, can anyone tell me what this brand is like to work with? I've never worked with Boro but I'm wondering if it's one of those glasses that is more tricky than other Boro. I won't have any experience to compare it to but if there is something special or frustrating, it would be good to know.

My husband was just layed off from his job as a Construction Superintendent (he was with them for 18 years). The company he worked for has lost 70 million dollars in work that has been put on hold. Life pretty much sucks right now in this crappy economy. I don't have a job other than beadmaking and we are faced with paying for our own health insurance along with everything else. I have no business thinking about this diversion and expense but maybe I can just get a few pieces of a few colors to cheer me up.

Hmm.
I wonder if there are any Parramore dealers here who have a
color sample pack. I'd love to buy one to see which colors
would work as encased florals (I already have a big list of
the ones that will not :roll:).

Okay.......I did it. But I want you to know that the fact that you even suggested it means more than I can say....and is more than enough. I get so much help from what people share with each other and with me on this website that I never even thought of adding myself to the RAOGK.

Melts like butta! Not tricky at all, what you see is what you get! No striking needed. If I remember correctly, work it farther out in the flame. They may pale little and boil if worked too hot.

Now I'm drooling. Thanks for the tip about working it cool. If anyone does find a source for a sample pack could you post it here?
