respirator
I'm taking a class at the gathering and one of the items needed is a respirator, we will be working Boro so what kind do I need?

Are you taking a class with Nancy Tobey?
|
I'd suggest Tips & Techniques and/or the boro room :)
|
Email the teacher direct and ask?
|
Thank you

Vepaints, once you find out what type of respirators can you post the info? I need to get one as well

I called 3M a few weeks ago for a suggestion on their best respirator, for lampwork fuming. Might consider them.

Generally a half-face respirator will work and is much more comfortable than a full face model. You want to get P100 cartridges for the respirator. They are similar to a hepa filter and remove 99.97% of particulates (enamels, glass, metal fumes from high silver/metal glasses).
The white face mask types that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes are not as effective. They remove 95% of particulate at most and tend to leak so the efficiency is often even lower. |
Most of the better resperators use changeable filters depending on what your working with.
Glass dust from cutting and grinding or enameling are fairly large compared with chemical fumes from acid etching or fumes from paint or glue. The larger company's have a chart or guide for what filter to use with what material. For torch work make sure the eye ware fits over the mask when working. |
