Creepy Crawlers Molds

Hi has anyone ever used the all-metal creepy crawler molds at all in glass work??

Beatrix 2017-11-12 10:14pm

...Huh, no, but it might make some interesting moulds.

Actually, a search indicates some of the moulds are zinc heavy. Maybe not a good idea at high temps.

So you are saying the metal is zinc I thought it was regular metal... zinc should not come in contact with hot glass

"Regular metal"? There's no such thing.

Zinc melts at 787 degrees F, and molten glass is usually well over 1000 degrees F.

Should be easy enough to check with a magnet, or taste.

Modpodge melts, polymer clay, or the colored hot glue may be compatable.
There where a few different designs and brands so there maybe additional options.

Input? SORRY, super duper pet peeve but that word makes me froth at the mouth almost as much as "wah-lah" in place of "voila" ;D

Maybe you could try making pottery molds from them, since you can use clay with glass if you soak it in water so the steam helps release the glass.

So the taste I'm not going to do but what is with the magnet???

So are they zinc curious minds truly want to know !

Beatrix 2017-11-16 9:38am

None of them are pure zinc, and what I read is that the older ones had so much zinc that they'd get white gunk on them. Don't know what the proportion of the metals used in the newer ones are, but I'd be leery of using them with molten glass.
