Online places that sell round hole marvers
 

Hey folks

What are some good examples of places online that sell round hole/bead roller marvers for achieving identical-size beads? I'm trying to make a list. I'm interested in both spheres and just regular discs. I've forced myself to do decent spheres after ages mashing things into cubes first, but I'm terrible on controlling the size.

Locally, a small graphite plate in my glass guy's store was $120 :shock:

Anyone to avoid specifically? Anyone with especially great service? I love my leadlight glass guy, but his $120 AUS plate was the same being sold at other places for about $15 US, and our currency conversion and shipping costs aren't THAT bad :sad:

Cgbeads makes the best round marvers imo.

Heather Trimlett's Round Up tools are great for making round beads. http://heathertrimlett.bigcartel.com. She also sells a tool for shaping disks.

Also check out Perlenpresse. I have been very happy with theirs.

I have heard of some folks using nippers to cut specific lengths off the glass rod to get better control of their bead sizes better.

It they are using multiple colors then they cut each color to the needed size and manipulate all the pieces and chunks with tweezers and long nose pliers.

I have found that I really like using a mold/press to get identical beads, but to add to what Speedslug says, you could mark off identical lengths with a sharpie. I find that easier than using short precut pieces. Additionally, you can mark off the hoped for "footprint" on the dried bead release right on the mandrel. In the olden days, many accomplished bead makers made multiple beads on the same mandrel at the same time. I could never get that right without one or more cracking before I finished the last one.

I am a big fan of Perlenpresse, I do host bulk buys from time to time. I love the round marver I got from them I use it all the time. Even with the shipping and exchange rate Perlenpresse is often cheaper than other suppliers and their tools are very good quality. Just my 2 cents:)

Thank you everyone! Yeah, I saw the trick with the marking off glass, though I have to admit I've been real lazy and not done that yet. That one appeals to me as while I have a glass cutter knife (for leadlight), I don't have clippers, nippers or shears, so cutting glass requires a bit of courage with the tool and then snapping in hand.

Right now cash is tight so I can't buy anything for a while, but I wanted a nice list so I could know exactly what I want when. When I'm broke, it makes me happy sort of making nice lists and fantasising :D

Hi Steampunked I am also in Australia and yes all lampworking stuff is very expensive hear if you can get it, I have just got some great bead marvers from Devardi glass they have fantastic customer service and there products are a bit cheaper since you are just starting out I would recommend not spending a lot until you get the hang of using them.
I also bought graphite plates and rods from china off Aliexpress / Aliebaba just look up graphite. they were very cheap. From them I made some of my own tools pokes and marvering paddles ect.

Hi Alan. I hadn't thought to use Aliexpress, thankyou for the tip. I have been able to make tungsten pokers from getting tungsten rod from Total Tools (Australia), sharpening it, and thrusting it through a cork.

I can recommend Donna at CGbeads as well and there is also a great selection at bavarian beads out of Germany.
