"Tink" Sounds

Whenever I turn off my Nortel Major I can hear little "tinks." Should I be concerned? Does anyone know why this happens? I saw someone else asked a similar question about the Nortel Minor, but she heard them when the torch was running. I only hear the "tinks" after I shut it off.

Sounds like classic metal expansion / contraction noise by your description.

I would only suggest to make sure the flame is being pushed some distance from the surface of the torch face.

Having the flame set to too low of a pressure can allow the flame to contact the torch and over heat it.
That kind of heat can get the knobs and the inner seating of the valves too hot and can damage them on some torches.

You want at least a sixteenth of an inch between the burning gas and the face of the torch.

Even then you can still wind up with -some- heating of the metal torch body just from the radiant heat.

Some tinking noise should be acceptable considering the way torches are put together out of multiple component parts soldered, brazed or welded together but it should not be too very loud or last very long to my way of thinking.

Have you contacted the maker with this issue yet? They may be able to reassure you and I would ask for that reassurance in writing if it were me.
