Hello folks.

Yes, I'm a total newbie - I've tried working this far out, cool, hot...but it bubbles and spits like crazy once it goes soft. To the point where shifting to a shockier glass is actually nice as the reactions are more predictable. Cool seems to help, but not much.

The colour is lovely but I feel like it's almost evaporating once it's warm. I'm an utter newb, so what am I doing wrong? From searching the forum, the colour change issue appears to be gone - no greys, the pink stays pink. Just...pink froth.

do a search here for Alabasters and opalinos, lots and lots of tips. Basically they are a very tricky glass to work and you need a cool flame and patience. Preheating helps also. Good luck!

After seeing them called 'Alabastards' I feel more reassured I'm not alone...

I was told, as a beginner, to not even think of buying alabasters and opalinos. Even when they seem to work, they can do something nasty years later.

Huh. I've been using them for years with no ill results. What are they 'supposed' to do?

A 1" encased opalino bead from 2005.

They boil like a b***h, but when you get them right, the colors are so nice. Worth the effort...........most of the time.
