todda 2013-04-17 9:52pm

who sells -Funky Citrus (NS experimental)?

Mary K 2013-04-17 10:05pm

Pretty, pretty, like all those colors! What white are you using Susan?

MagpieGlass 2013-04-18 3:10am

Yummy. How did you know I've been on a "find the perfect pink" kick?

You could have spent that time making jellies

istandalone24/7 2013-04-18 5:52am

how does one get some of those experimental colors from NS?

i'm seeing lots of people post them, but i don't see them in the vendors websites.

I got mine in Tucson from ABR, but I haven't seen any since then. Maybe we could convince NS to make us some more! I think it can do far more than I showed. I didn't try to flame strike it at all. I believe it can yield purples.

Parramore white - bought some from ABR and it goes a long way as just a base for beads. Really nice white, not boily at all. Did I send you some to play with? I thought I did, but my memory is ridiculously bad these days!

I only get mine in Tucson from ABR. I've seen them online but I think that they are hard to keep up with and probably not worth the trouble of photographing etc when they only get a limited one-time amount of it to begin with. I would call Dave at ABR and see if he has any right now. He gets shipments throughout the year for shows, but I don't know the schedule for that.

I needed to build up my confidence to even TRY the jellies. Off mandrel stuff is intimidating (but very fun). Hoping to get in the studio today; if I make it I'll give a jelly a shot. But you have to promise not to laugh!

I love pinks too - I finally decided to color test and keep the beads in the studio so I would have a reference on what color looks like what. Still have several pinks to go, but working on it! I'll share whatever I get done but I hope you aren't in a hurry. lol!

BeadBlossoms 2013-04-18 7:56am

Love all of them, especially the funky citrus! Thanks so much for posting all of the beads. Do you mind sharing what annealing schedule you are using to get these great pinks? I've done searches on them, and have found 6 diferrent ones, so confused :)

Rated your thread 5 stars :)

thank you, Donna! My Glasshive came programmed but I'm pretty sure it's Brent's (Mr. Smiley's) schedule. I'll dig around and see if I have it written anywhere. I have a fuji, not sure how to pull the schedule out of it.

Jackson River Glass 2013-04-18 4:34pm

I got amber purple, Mai Tai and Loki done today but Mai Tai needed another run thru the kiln so I'll try to post pics tomorrow or Saturday.

framerak 2013-04-21 8:37pm

WOW! Just gorgeous Susan!

Jackson River Glass 2013-04-22 9:37pm

Thank you Angela! I got the beads cleaned today, hope to photograph them tomorrow. Love playing with pink glass, always exciting to open the kiln. Yum!

Jackson River Glass 2013-04-23 1:06pm

Amber Purple & Loki

alrighty, finally got them photographed. I am not posting the Mai Tai, as the colors just didn't come out right. I know this is an awesome color, I'm certain it is operator error. Need another go round with this one - I've seen the pics of what Mai Tai can do, but I'm a Mai Tai rookie. I'll post when I get more beads made. Really sorry about the fuzzy beads. Didn't catch that in time to redo pics.

Loki

I really liked the Loki with the white base and clear frit not encased so I made a set of those. Hard to see this bead in the group shot, so I'm showing it separately too as the set. AP done this way is very close to the same look.

No problem! I know I have learned so much from others on LE and the web in general, so it's nice to give back. Feel free to post any pics you have of pink stuff!

PennyLane 2013-04-24 5:35am

Thanks Susan, You are sooo generous! This is something I've been wanting to know.

Jackson River Glass 2013-04-24 6:19am

you're welcome, my pleasure.

Here's a set I did last week with Tequila sunrise (white base), silver creek frit and partially encased with clear stringer.

Have you ever heard of a GA color called Atomic Kumquat? It looks pinkish and was wondering if it was difficult to work with -

It's either really new or an experimental. Watch Maui Greenstones color testing thread ... I'm pretty sure he has it on his list!! I can't wait to see what it does for him ... I'm seen some really awesome pictures of it.

BeadBlossoms 2013-04-25 9:05am

Do you have a link for the color testing thread by any chance?

It's says Atomic Kumquat is an "old school" color that has been new and improved for less air, more UV reaction and better working properties.

I think this is the thread magpie was talking about, but I don't see that color on the list. http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=243016

ETA: I did find this one from Maui tho, with AK shown in a jelly: http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...6&postcount=10

Atomic Kumquat is a old Glass Alchemy that they had retired and now are bring back to there line up with those improvements. i never have the old stuff but got some of the new and when you use it it is almost clear in regular light and then under the black light you get a light pink glow not that strong but still cool.

http://www.mountainglass.com/Alchemy...at-GA0263.html

From the results i get i can tell you the bright area at the top and on some of the bump that i thought looks purplely pink is the reflection of the purplish florescent black light bulb. which show how close the black light needs to be to get a good pink glow. but i do think it we have some cool applications. But just remember it is clear with out the black light.

MagpieGlass 2013-04-27 5:04am

Thanks for posting the links Susan ... I was slow getting back.

And thanks for the detail "mike". I was back on GA's site the other day and saw it was a resurrected color. I think I'll pass on that color I'm not much of a blacklight girl. Great for Vegas though!!

lotusbunny2009 2016-01-20 10:19am

Those pinks are incredible!! Simple questions: what torch do you use? Could a Mini CC melt boro to make similar sized beads? Thanks! Karen

caliglassguy 2016-01-20 8:24pm

My first torch was a CC mini and yes it will melt boro. I've made some decent size boro marbles on mine. I was on tanked oxygen though....not sure what oxy supply you're using.

I run off my house natural gas (could be a problem?) and an M15 oxy con.

Not a lot of torch time right now, busy with life stuff. Going back into pics from a few years back...

I can't seem to get those purples/pinks with my loki -- how are you working it/what are you doing with the flame???

Thanks!

I just use a neutral flame. When it goes in the kiln it's just starting to go from clear to yellow etc. I do not do any flame striking, just put it in the kiln.

SarahBlue 2016-02-10 6:47am

Fantastic, thank you. I must be doing something wrong with my kiln settings. Would you be able to tell me what kind of program you run?? Thank you so so much for this thread. It's so so valuable and saves so much time and effort!!!!
I will keep checking for reference. I have all these glasses, but I haven't been able to make them do this! If you would be willing to share your kiln settings I would be so grateful and I apologize if you already posted it somewhere. I get lost in the threads sometimes.....
