Fiber kilns weigh a lot less. Someone might want one for portability, I suppose. If that's not an issue, I'd go with brick. They hold heat far better.

You boiled the enamels. That can create a cool organic effect, but it can allow the colors to mix. Keep in mind that brown is a mix of colors so it must have mixed up into green on your bead.
