I've never tried to 'deconstruct' a torch, but I'm amazed to read that the tip is just press-fitted! Really?!?! I think I'd feel better knowing that there were some threads involved in that attachment.
I'm glad your 'friend' wasn't hurt. And I'd for sure never have anyone standing across the room when lighting / using it again! Eeek.
