No, not at all. Squirrels feet/hand pads are very tough. He's never had a cut or anything. Plus he's free to roam inside and outside, so he hides a lot of nuts outside. He only hides them inside when he doesn't feel like making the trek out. We actually cut a little hole through the wall by the front deck so he can come and go from that way, or though the roof.
