Try via "manage attachments" instead. Scroll straight down under the reply box.
Click 'manage attachments', then 'upload', you can preview to see if your image is attached or not.
If you are using 'quick reply', click 'advanced' to see this.
Or, use a place to upload, tinypic or photobucket for example, then copy the link, click that image above that looks like a yellow landscape and paste the link.
