question: have you tried to cut the tops of the canvas so that you can just lift the mandrels out without bending? Would they fall out if you do that?

I love the idea. I'm sure I'll make one or the other sooner or later. And I have to go to the tobacco shop anyway (some of us do still smoke ...)
