A hot torch will not cause black spots or scum. It will make the glass boil which could LOOK like scum. I work on an extremely hot torch with no problems but I think maybe your mixture might be off? Not enough oxy?
Effetre is what I use. Pale Aqua is good too but has a slight blue cast.
