I have found that I really like using a mold/press to get identical beads, but to add to what Speedslug says, you could mark off identical lengths with a sharpie. I find that easier than using short precut pieces. Additionally, you can mark off the hoped for "footprint" on the dried bead release right on the mandrel. In the olden days, many accomplished bead makers made multiple beads on the same mandrel at the same time. I could never get that right without one or more cracking before I finished the last one.
