I have a question though:
what do you mean when you say "keep the bead half in and half out the flame"? is this one half in the flame and the other half below or above the flame, or is it a side- thing?

I know people do it different ways, but when my Hothead is working well I prefer to have the bead above the flame with it's bottom half or bottom third in the flame as I roll it up and away from me. This way radiant heat is coming up on what's out of the flame and I can watch the progress better. If it is acting up and flaring I keep the bead below the flame.

I would think that on a surface-mixed torch having it below the flame is better because the temp is hotter.

Can others comment?
