Kiln questions about firebrick
Hey everyone, quick question or two for the masses regarding insulating fire brick!
1. Whats the difference between G and K type firebrick? Ex. G26 vs. K26
2. Whats the opinion on using a denser, harder refactory brick for the floor of the kiln?
I was thinkinh about building a subfloor in my kiln with denser brick to make the soft brick more easily replacable as it gets torn up. But now im wondering if itd be better to put the dense brick inside on the floor with the soft brick underneath it to prevent excess thremal transfer, then i have the benefit of the brick lasting longer and less kiln dust to deal with on my glass.
oh one last question,
Any reason that i shouldnt use G-26 firebrick instead of K-23? K23 looks to run about $4-5 per brick whereas i can buy G-26 for $1 per brick...
