Default Interest in a marble flame-off?

I'm considering putting on a marble flame-off sometime next year. This is still very much in the planning stages, so I can't give you many details yet. It will be somewhere on the East Coast, probably in the Virginia/DC/Maryland area. I'm talking to a couple places about possibly hosting it, so the location and date isn't confirmed yet.

I'm just putting this out there now to see what kind of interest there would be in an event like this.

There would be different categories of marbles and prizes for each category. Of course it would be open to marble makers of any experience level and you can work in any type of glass. It would be a situation where each marble maker had a certain time limit to complete their marble in. Not sure yet how judging would be handled. I'm hoping that I can get a few "celebrity" glass workers to judge it.

So, if this is something that would interest you, please post here. Of course I'm also open to any suggestions you may have.

Hey, Cosmo! What about doing it at the time of the Philly Bead Fest show? That would be very cool! Personally, I don't make marbles, but would love to support as a spectator .

We're still trying to figure out a date. We have several possible dates. We just have to figure out which one is going to work the best.

I hope to have a date by the end of the year. It will be held on the east coast.

Some people had mentioned doing it in the midwest or on the west coast or whatever, and that is a possibility in the future, but I want to get the first one done before we look at future ones.

This is still something that may happen. The place that was going to host it has changed management, and I haven't discussed it with the new managers yet. It's on list of stuff to do though...

I'll be there August 14-15.

I haven't talked with the new management about the flame-off. Carlisle is having one in June that I think may compete with it. They do theirs in conjunction with the Wheaton Marble show. From what I've heard, they are thinking about doing the Wheaton show every other year from now on, so the Carlisle show would only be every other year, and maybe we can get one going at Accents in the years they aren't doing one. I would like to be able to attract some of the bigger names to it, and I'm not sure they could come to both in the same year.

That's up to you, actually. I had been discussing it with Lori, but I know she's not there any more.

I'll send you an e-mail about it. I'm still very much interested in doing it...
