Default lampwork and bullet casings?

Has anyone done any kind of lampwork directly on a spent casing? My Grandpa passed away, and the Honor Guard gave the family the casings from the 21 Gun Salute, and I would like to do something with them if possible. They are brass casings, and I have some others to practice on first, if it's something that can be done...anyone have any experience with this?

What a lovely way to commemorate your Grandpa. I hope you can do it.

Thin brass will disappear quickly in the torch flame. I'd suggest finding some other way to use them to commemorate your grandfather.

Punch/drill out the primer and make a glass bullet to fit inside the shell

That would be very cool!

I've tried enameling on them, but it doesn't work well, not because the brass doesn't hold up, but it really needs a high expansion enamel. The medium expansion I tried it with blew off as the shell cooled.

I have some I tried cutting and using as a core for a big hole bead. The brass split too easily. It's not a very thick wall.

I love the idea of a glass bullet. I might steal that!

Or, if you can drill or otherwise get a hole through the base, what about using it like a bead somehow. You could work it into the bail, or hang it below a bead, or... there's a bunch of ideas if you think of it more like a cylinder bead or a cone shaped bead cap.

I know that Nitadee used bullet casings. She made little implosions the shape of a bullet on a rod that fit into the bullet. She then nipped the rod and glued them into the casing.. if I remember this all right.
