In the foothills of Northwest Pennsylvania [an hour north of Pittsburgh] is the Glass Blowing Center that has long been the home to AGI [a week of working with boro glass]. The Center now hosts Soft Glass Invitational Retreat which offers three days of torching with other artists in a very informal and self-motivated atmosphere.
This year Kris Schiable is the honorary Social Director and Bronwen Heilman is the Master Artist. Lewis [Dirty Looie] Wilson and Bronwen will be teaching a one day class on Sunday after the Retreat. Patti Cahill will attend again this year and if encouraged will probably offer a class.
The cost of attending is $300 for a torch station [you bring your own torch] and $225 for attending without a dedicated torch station [sharing torch stations is allowed]. The cost covers all three days of open torch, all demonstrations as well as all lunches and dinners.
We also have a Free Trade Zone where you can bring and sell your beads, used tools or glass you don't use, books or magazines as well as any videos or tools that you make. If you want time to demonstrate your wares, there will be a time sheet to sign up to use the demo station. Lewis and I will be working on a collaboration sculpture to raffle at the end of the Retreat.
Our purpose is to promote the Glass Blowing Center as a retreat for groups large and small, to promote the sharing of information and to form friendships or to have time with friends you don't get to see often enough. The Center has five separate buildings set up for torching which are available year round to rent if you want to set up a class or if you and your friends just want to get away.
2013 Dates: May 16, 17 and 18th [Thursday, Friday and Saturday]
