Default Cane, Murrini and Millefiori

I have written a set of tutorials on making eight different types of murrini including clownfish, blue tangs, two types of butterflies and signature cane.

There is a lot more information and pictures on the etsy page:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...ng_id=30414633

Here are pictures of the kinds of things made in the tutorials:

The first eight pictures are straight from the tutorials and the other ones at the bottom are closeups of a few murrini.

Thanks!

Awesome, Ryan! I am sure that it's ok to put the download links to Message to Buyers.

I added your tutorial to my thread showing all the tutorials that are available for sale but it's all sold out in your store so I couldn't put the price in the description. Perhaps you should put up many more!

Oh, Ryan! Good to see you posting again - we missed you around here! This looks like an amazing tutorial...I checked, but they are sold out at the moment. Because Etsy doesn't show the price of something that sold, I'm not sure it's going to be in my "price range" but am optimistic!

I'm really happy for you - this looks like an amazing tutorial, but at 60 pages, I better invest in a color cartridge for my printer first - ha!

Are you considering publishing this in book form? That would be neat to have, too!

Take good care! Hope school is going well for 'ya!

Sold out!

You are such a tease.
Now put more back up, or we will be forced
to beat you with 2mm stringers.

Thanks everyone!
I couldn't figure out how to increase the quantity after it was sold out so I ended up making a new item for it. I also added the download links to the message to buyers so hopefully you will receive it as soon as possible since my sleeping patterns have become shifted 8 hours of so because of summer...

This is great! I took a class with Loren Stump but my note taking was less than stellar. Ryan's tut is a great tool for murrini making. And, as a bonus just last night I was thinking about making a butterfly murrini. It's in there!

Thanks, Ryan!

Great job Ryan!
Wow so much packed into this, I had to get it.
I've been wanting to make a butterfly murrini and I have half my sig cane done. Now I'm inspired to get them done!
Thanks

I've just read the entire tutorial, in careful and "narrative" detail. I read it as if it were being spoken to me - and I have a couple of important comments to make...hope you don't mind, Ryan! Before I post on the contents of the tutorial itself, though, I'd like to express that although Ryan is a young guy (and indicates that he's only been lampworking for about 3 years), he shows an immense talent; not only in the skill of lampworking, but in his ability to truly "tutor" and describe the steps of fabricating murrini by providing great written as well as photo support.

Now, commenting on the tutorial itself, I can tell you that when you get this in your hot little hands, you will surely be filled with excitement and enthusiasm! Because this tut offers such a variety of different murrini options to make, you may find that you want to jump right in and go to the middle (fish) of the tut or beyond (butterfly) right from the start. As much as I understand this desire, I can't encourage the "beginner" level murrini-maker enough to take it slow, start with the simpler styles of cane, and learn the "feel" of how to build and pull the glass. You will most definitely benefit from doing this by giving yourself the "groundwork" to understanding how the glass behaves and surely raising the possibility of "success" with the more complex cane designs.

One more thing I think really worth saying - and this has to do with the kind of "character" Ryan shows in his closing comments in this tutorial: Ryan, you're a class act! I was very impressed with your expressions of selflessness and encouragement in your Closing Words. From your viewpoints on sharing, to the sweet acknowledgments of the people who helped you make this "happen", I gotta say you really show a remarkable maturity and I'm sure your family must be very proud of you!!!!

Wishing you great success with this (and maybe future?) tutorials; all my very best to you! I'm rating this one a 5!!!

DeAnne

Just got it and looked it over.
Excellent tutorial!
Thumbs up.

I have to add this part, (because it amuses me).
I am a LONGTIME cane maker. BUT, in the Polymer Clay field.
I make complex canes all the time - some that end up the size
of a dinner plate before I reduce them.

But boy, glass and Polymer Clay are two different animals!
It's hard to translate over what I know to the glass world.
I'm going to use a lot of the tips in this tute to see if I can
recreate some of my favorite PC canes in glass.

So, I'm either going to become the maker of the most incredible
canes you've ever seen, OR I'm going to have a lot of holes
in my floor where I've dropped gobs of melted glass (better that then
my lap! ). Have to see how this works with Boro....

Thanks Ryan!

It's all soft glass (104) but I know that murrini making is very similar in boro (although I haven't had the guts to try anything big with my poor lynx).

Thread kind of old, but I bought this, and I'm pretty new at murrini. Been on the torch about 2 years.

Here's my smiley face, mixed in with some random bullseyes. The smiley's turned out great, I love 'em! This is a fantastic tut, well worth the money.

Shelley~~~

Those smiley murrini are adorable!!! I like the little "swirl" (black w/green) ones too...

I LOVE this tutorial...and I'm glad to see it's been resurrected!!! Ryan is amazing in his work and was very detailed and generous in creating his tutorial for us!

Thanks for posting!

Bumping up this thread 'cause I just got this tut so I can make butterfly murrini for use in beads for Beads of Courage.

I can't do sculptural beads for anything, so I hope I can do some butterfly murrini instead
