Default Dirty Propane or propane low?

Well, I've taken all the suggestions posted here and a few of my own and I'm still getting embers on the torch face. But now, it happens even when I have only the inner fire on. I've emailed GTT with my questions and am waiting for a reply.

In the meantime, has anyone tried changing out their propane tank -- for better or worse? I got mine from Purity gas here in the city and I would think they would be cleaner than the ones you pick up at the gas station. But you never know. I'd hate to shell out the money for a new one if the chances are low that this is the cause. Thanks.

Okey, I'm not sure what I'm doing differently to everyone, but I've noticed little to no carbon build up on mine.

Here are my setup:
Torch - WITH factory hose and the brass filter thingy
Fuel - propane
Oxygen - AirSep High Intensity (running at 8 lpm @ 20 psi)

I have to run the neutral flame more hissy (ie high oxy) to get the colours I want. I can't and don't try to run it 100% because of the oxygen supply limitation. When I have both inner and outer flame running I have to turn down the flame so the candles are no more than 1cm (1/4" ish) to stop some colours from reducing.

HTH

Cheers
Nancy

I have discovered that there are 2 types of scorpion torches out there.
The torch face on mine is all one piece, the holes for the tubes are drilled out of
of one piece of metal. They also make scorpions that have the cricket part as
a separate unit in the middle. The one's like mine are what they made first,
and then they modified them because production was more effecient.
At least that's what I understand. Now I wonder, those of you getting the
embers on the face, what kind do you have?
On another note, I purchased a second regalia. When I hooked it up I
noticed that I was getting leaking around the connection at the place you
connect your hose up. Then I looked at the one I already had, and it was
leaking too. Today my special connector to wye them together came,
and after hooking that up, no leaks at all. And boy, what a difference
I get now. I have not melted any glass, I will do that tomorrow and
report in if I get any embers.
One thing for sure, I have had to try hard to work farther up in the flame.
If I get close I get embers just like that. Today I worked with just
one of my regalia's and stayed farther up from the flame, and got
almost no embers. I really think it's splashback, from the heat of
the object I am melting. Kind of anoying, but I like the torch.
So, those of you with embers...what kind of scorpion face do you have?

Mary - I'll have to check the type but I do know that last night while checking everything, I notice my one oxy con was leaking at the connector on the machine. Last night I ordered a new connector from Kim so I'm hoping that will help a lot.

Just checked. It's all one piece. I think the new "Y" I ordered from Kim may make a big difference as the torch isn't getting a full compliment of O2 and I've noticed I can't get a nice center flame -- candles no bigger than between 1/8" and 1/4" -- unless I turn on the tanked O2 source, too. Time will tell. I'll keep you updated.

I've had the original Y for well over a year, so I guess the connections could become loose. I'm really looking forward to replacing it with Kim's and keeping my fingers crossed that it helps solve the problem.

I've also started cleaning the face of the torch with a stainless steel brush, cleaning ports and working further out (although with a small flame it's hard to get too far out. LOL) and it DOES seem to help. I won't give up as I really like the torch.

I just finished torching for about 3 hours, had to get up early and get
out to my studio as it's susposed to be 104 degrees today.
I ran the scorpion on 2 regalias set at 10. This is a completely different
torch on 2 regalias. I experimented to see if I could make it carbon up,
I worked close to the face, made a really large piece, melted frit
like amazon bronze ( that would carbon it up immediatly before ) and
got positively not one tiny bit of carbon or embers. None.
I do not have to be careful about how close to the face I get,
I can work like I am used to, even when I used a low flame and
got close, no carbon at all. It looks like my problem is solved.

Yay!!! I am so glad that the problem is solved. And with that much oxygen, you will be able to work a lot larger/hotter/faster than before.

Thanks again for all your assistance Kim, you are always
there when I need you it seems. I love my 2 regalias, they are
quiet, run cool ,they are dependable and just the best. IMHO.
We all check our propane fittings for leakage, but maybe we
should all check our oxy fittings, I am sure I was losing out
on some oxy and pressure by the leaking. The wye adapter
that I got from you rocks! No leaking, I love it! Thank you!

Default Like having a whole new torch!

I got Kim's "Y" oxy con connector today, hooked it up and it's like having a whole new torch!! I can get nice long candles and a huge flame, which is allowing me to work well quite a distance from the torch face.

Thank you so much, Kim.

p.s. You advised to leave the O2 torch valve open all time except when first lighting up. This might sound silly, but does that mean when the cons are off, too?

No, just when the machines are on.

Hey I'd leave them open even when you shut machines off, just one less thing to remember when you turn them on.

Vote for both off when the concentrator is off. It is just too easy to turn the wrong one off or leave both the gas and oxygen on if you are distracted. That way, as part of the shut down process the extra oxygen can be used to cool down the torch when the concentrator is turned off. i.e. to bleed down to zero. But first burn off the extra gas w/o the oxygen on, etc.

That's what I've been doing. I also leave the O2 running when I clean the ports. That way little bits get blown out.
