Satin cord clasps, Which holds better??
O.k. so I gonna buy some pretty hand dyed satin cords - these ones....
http://www.satincord.com/a_cord_1_satin_hand_dyed.html
My question is which clasps should I buy to make necklaces, I will be hanging pendants from them and my beads are kind of big(if that makes a difference).
Here are the 2 types of clasps. 1 you epoxy on and the other is some type of crimp clasp.
http://satincord.com/FCT-S3569-006-p...assembled.html
http://www.satincord.com/fcr-2052-02...fold_over.html
Anyone ever use these types of findings and which ones do you think hold up better?
Thanks!!!

I've never used glue-in ones, but I've used similar folding crimps. They hold great!

I use the fold over crimps too. I just ordered a different type of crimp tube--it is lighter weight than the end caps and meant to be flattened. However, I am thinking that it should be glued first, then flattened. Anyone used this type? I bought a necklace that had it on the end of some of the Ultra Microfiber Suede cord. I love the look of this crimp on the finished piece.

Just for information on the cord ends - the easiest cord ends to use for satin cord are the fold-over crimp-style cord ends. They hold well enough that they don't have to be glued, and if you are making a lot of necklaces, this saves loads of time.
One initial problem with fold-over cord ends (that has since been solved) was that they were folded over and flattened with pliers, and we could never get them to have a nice professional look. Well, there are are new pliers out that are designed specifically for the fold-over cord ends, and they make the cord ends into nice rounded tubes - much nicer looking than the original squished look. A bonus is that since they don't flatten the cord ends, you can actually use them with leather and rubber and other things that you weren't able to use with the fold-over style cord ends.

I went and looked at the satin cord and now I want some! lol But I want a general color that will work with most of the beads I make. I tend to use more summery colors. What would you suggest as something neutral? I thought black but wonder if that is to dark?

Is there any special trick to using the pliers? Are the pliers used with any foldover crimp or does it need to something special?
BTW -- love your tutorial section! I'll have to spend more time there!

are the pliers the regular crimp pliers or something different? hard to tell from the picture, looks the same, bigger though. wondering if reg. crimp pliers would work, i guess these are wide enough to fit whole crimp in at once.

First, I apologize for not answering questions in a more timely manner. My husband just had a heart transplant - we had to drop everything and run when we got the call and things have been pretty hectic since. To answer your questions -
Susieklein - the most popular color cord that we sell is black, hands down. After that, in the neutral range, the most popular colors are brown and antique gold. I would also use tan as a neutral, as long as it isn't too much lighter than the bead that you're stringing.
Bekah - I'm not sure if we did it before or after you checked the tutorials, but we did recently add a tutorial for using the crimping pliers. They work with all of the fold-over crimps we have tried them with except for the very tiny (1mm) size.
Ro - these pliers are different from the regular crimping pliers and you're exactly right - they are wide enough to fit the entire crimp - much wider than the regular crimping pliers that are used with the little crimp beads.

I just found your crimping pliers tutorial, Robin. Wish I had seen that before I ruined so many of my clasps! lol
FYI--once you've crimped 'em you can't undo them!
But I love love the satin cord and claps I got from satincord.com!

Susie - I'll send you a few more clasps to make up for the ones lost in practice. You're right - once they're crimped, you can't undo them, but that's really a good thing.

I've used these.

The advantage is that the cord slips all the way through and you crimp the middle. The part that stick through can be cut short and singed with a lighter making a blob to help secure it - then you add your own clasp.

I buy from this company and they are good people. I used to buy the crimp ends with the extender chain and they have not had them for a while, does anyone know where I might find these.
