Default New Rock Tumbler Questions

I think I have the concept. Wash out, fill halfway with stainless steel shot, cover the shot with water, add a squirt of Dawn, add your silver jewelry, tumble.

Will tumbling remove tarnish?

I found some silver earrings that I forgot I bought (maybe a couple of years ago) and they had quite a patina. A silver cloth helped somewhat but left tarnish staining behind.

The earrings are set with abalone shell. Can that be tumbled?

Are there gemstones, pearls, etc. that should not be tumbled?

Thanks!

Yes it will take the tarnish off, so much so it will blind you with it's sparklyness! (don't think that's a real word but it sounds good!)

I wouldn't risk the abalone, I'm afraid it may crack. Also, pearls, turquoise and swarovski crystals should not be tumbled. I'm sure there are more that should not be tumbled but those are off the top of my head.
