Default Why is it called the dark side?

Why is it called the dark side? Come on? The dark side?

Like it's evil? That makes 104 what, God's glass?

Like 33 is Darth Vador and 104 is Luke?

Like 33 people can't afford to keep the lights on?

Like 33 is in the dark, uniformed? Uneducated?

Like 33 is dark skinned? A minority? Like our president or MLK? An insult or compliment?

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad 33 is presented as being different; an alternative both as a material and as a lifestyle.

But aren't we more like a red head step child? The red side?

Aren't we more true, more blue blooded? Or real deal worker bees, blue collar workers? The blue side?

I think that 33, displacement volumes being equal, 33 and 104 weigh differently, so that would make us either the heavy side or the light side. Right?

We all get high, can we be the high side?

Anyway, I love what I do. But, dude, i would never say I work on the dark side.

Makes people feel "dangerous"? Like in a thrilling way??

Folks who are lured over into boro tend to not come back to 104, hence somewhere along the lines boro received the nickname "the dark side."

It's a joke. Don't take it so seriously as it's not meant to be serious.

I know it's a joke. I don't mean to take it "so seriously".

But it's a good question.

It's just a Star Wars joke that started when people would want to "just try" boro, and the boro peeps would say "come to the dark side!" It's a reference to the seductive qualities of boro.

It really IS seductive.

Also, boro eye protection IS much darker than soft glass eye protection, so it kind of does FEEL like the "dark side" in my studio when I'm doing boro.

Kalera explained it a lot better than I did.

I too always assumed it was a silly joke about the eye protection, riffing on the whole Star Wars mojo...

Hmm. I would have thought the answer was obvious. Darth Vader works in borosilicate...

if anything 104 should be the darkside

#1 Your personal power animal is the Tasmanian Devil

#2 Your 'Numerology' number is 2. If it wasn't bulls**t, it would mean that you are supportive, diplomatic, analytical, and play well with others. A team-player, you seek peace and harmony in a group.

#3 According to the US Census Bureau°, fewer than 0.001% of US residents have the first name 'Darth' and 0.0003% have the surname 'Vader'. The US has around 300 million residents, so we guesstimate there is only 1 American who goes by the name Darth Vader.

I think that those of us on "The Dark Side" that have Tasmanian Devils as their Power/Totem animals are quite simply.....................

The Best.

I thought it originated back when the boro palette had much less vibrant colors than what's available today. Soft glass colors are still so much more brighter, like sunshine in rod form.

It's so darn addictive..........I need glass, I need glass!

I think it's all on the dark side because if I don't get all the new colors of every kind of glass soon I'm gonna be robbing gas stations to fill the glass addiction. What's not dark about that?

Maybe it's because we torch naked?
Or because we eat souls for a living.

Actually, I think the phrase, "Dark Side" refers to the fact
that boro glass is like 10x more expensive than regular glass,
so "the Dark Side" refers to the fact that we can't afford
to both torch AND keep the electric bill paid. Hence, no lights.
