How do I NOT strike Rubino
My flowers look goofy when Rubino strikes too dark, but they look delicate and whispy when it strikes just a little. I have to melt the design all the way in, so I am using prolonged heat.
Is there a way to strike it light rather than dark?
Thank you

If you have to work on the bead for any length of time, most batches of Rubino will strike. The only batch I have used where that doesn't happen is one where the rods were almost clear. If you melt the pink in quickly (without burning it) and then don't reintroduce into the flame at all, you might get a lighter strike - if the bead doesn't spend too much time in the kiln. It's tough to get lighter pink out of Rubino - especially if you have to melt it in all the way and continue to work the bead.

Veiled Rubino might give you the effect you are trying to get.

I've found different batches to be different shades.

Veiled Rubino might work! Great idea. I wonder if anyone else has had good results when trying not to strike so dark....

Is this the same thing? The word "clear" is confusing me...

Also, could I "dilute" my own rubino by mixing it with clear???

Less time in the kiln keeps it lighter. Make these beads at the end of your torching day/night, the last ones before you start the annealing cycle.

If you encased the bead in clear once it was the color pink you wanted, and then added your other colors/designs...I wonder if that would work.

I would try mixing it with clear. Rubino rods have a clear core anyway. Add more clear, mix mix mix, see what happens.
Alternatively, stripe rubino onto a clear rod and pull out into stringer, and use that instead of the rubino rod.

No, because it strikes the more you heat it, it's not like silver glass where the reaction stops once its encased. I quite often don't bother to deliberately strike it because I know as I work the design it will do its thing

Today, I couldn't get my Rubino to strike. Go figure. Same batch and everything! LOL, glass can be such a pain! Ha ha!
