Big hole beads...
I have yet to delve into the world of "Big Hole Beads". Can anyone please tell me what are the hole sizes of the most popular ones and what's the difference between Troll, Biagi, and Pandora? Mandrel sizes?
Thank you,
Jack
(If this is a stupid question, please excuse my ignorance)

It's not a stupid question... just one that's been answered in many threads already. If you use the Search function, you should be able to locate all the answers you're looking for.

I've tried that before asking this question. I couldn't find any specifics on sizes... just pictures of beads.

O.K. It looks like 5mm is big enough to fit Pandora, Troll, and Biagi. Does that sound about right? Anybody?
Thanks,
Jack

If you are not going to core the beads, then use 5/32" mandrels to make Trollbeads size and 3/16" mandrels to make Pandora size beads. You can also double dip the 5/32" mandrels to make Pandora beads. Pandora beads need 4.6mm holes and Trollbeads 4mm holes.

Thank you very much for that. I really appreciate it! Do you think the cored beads are more popular than non-cored?

Hi Jack ... I've looked into this question several times over the past few months and different beadmakers will give you different answers...but, this is what the majority seem to be saying:
For Pandora with out lining you can use a 5/32" mandrel
For Pandora with lining you may be able to use a 5/32" if you double-dip
For Pandora with lining it's best to use either a 3/16" or 1/4"
I hope this helps ya out. I'm not a BHB maker, only tried it once, but I've been researching this because I'd like to get in a supply of the mandrels to sell on my website. So you've got the best info I could find. Good luck.

I found that the cored bead slide on the bracelets better. Thus the name "pandora sliders". It also serves as a protection for the bead while on the bracelet. I tried selling some of these big hole beads without the core, and didn't do so well. I started to core them or glue the ss rivets in the holes, and now they sell pretty good. For me anyway.

From what I've read here and on other forums it does seem that BHBeads that are cored sell better.

3/16 do not work on a Pandora, Biagi or Chamilia. They need to be 1/4". I have a Biagi, and have made beads on the 3/16 and cored them and they will not slide on. They are just slightly too small.

I guess the safest way to go is 1/4". Going through the other threads regarding this there are a lot that say they only use 3/16" and others that say it's too small so they only use 1/4"...and then there are the "double dippers". As you can see, it's not as easy to figure out as just "searching" for BHB, there are a lot of differing opinions.
Might be a good idea to get yourself a little assortment of mandrels from your local hardware store and do some experimenting.
