Default HELP! Bead stuck to Chilil Pepper Element

I was torching and accidently let a bead touch my Chilipepper;s element. It was on there about 10 minutes before I noticed and is stuck. I turned the kiln off and left it closed. What do I do now? TIA!!!!

The good news is that glass is a great insulator. There are several things you might want to try. The goal is to try to remove the mandrel without killing the coil, or yourself. (not necessarily in that order)

If the bead is very small you might try reheating the coils and pull the mandrel with some of the glass out of the coil, leaving some glass behind should not do much harm.

You might want to thermal shock the bead so it busts up. The bead will have to be hot.

You need to check that the mandrel is not touching or very near the coil. You don't want to touch it if it is, or could touch the coil with the power on.

Wait until you get several more posts here before you do anything. You will get several great ideas from a lot of talented people here. You might as well wait for several to reply.

Let us know how it turns out.

Steve

Maybe heat up the kiln with the bead still stuck, open the door, turn it off, unplug it, and let it thermal shock itself off? Should work in theory. Then again I've never tried it. Good luck.

how about taking your torch, with the kiln off and bead cold, and hitting the bead with the flame... thermal shock/boom and it should be free....

Since the element is encased in quartz, I would expect it will "let go" on its own when it's fully cooled.
