Double helix ruby test batches
I wasn't able to attend the Gathering this year but hope to purchase some of ruby test batches when they go on sale. Does anyone who has tried them have any recommendations about the different test batches. I'd love to hear any thoughts before I make my purchases.

I've only tried one and it was amazing. I have a feeling you can't go wrong getting one (or more) of each batch.

Are they just...red? Or do they reduce, react, or strike?

They are gold rubies, so yes, they strike, like rubino oro.

I really like the one I bought, haven't thrown them in the kiln yet but they did strike very easy, and I'm not always good at striking glass!! Hope they Make one a permanent color.

Becky, which number did you buy. They were about 4 or 5 for sale. There were Beads made by Haley for each bs tech and they were all gorgeous, sigh! Do you have a picture of you bead made with striking Ruby? Lydia

Becky, that's gorgeous. Unlike the Rubino oro which looks almost black when used alone. I'll definitely have to play with my rods when I get a chance. I have the same one you do. Thanks for posting. Lydia

It looks really yummy - I didn't have the cash on hand when it was available, but I hope they bring it back as a regular color so I can get some!

I sure hope that at least one becomes a stock colour. The batch I bought appears to be 'Nikki proof'!

I got RG670a and b, PL672 and RO668. The 670B turned Golden with pink and purple streaks. They are beautiful cranberry pinks/reds...very clear and deep, but the 670b was the only one that really struck...and I TRIED! LOL The second one in this picture has more purples in it. None are encased.

I think you may have some of your labels mixed up. The bead on the left is likely the PL-672, which is a pink silver color.
The gold rubies don't need any special treatment to "strike", just try not to over-heat them to avoid transforming the gold Ruby into a "saphirin" blue/fuchsia, as overheating can produce off-tones.

I double checked and the labels are correct. The one on the left is a VERY light pale pink that started turning golden almost immediately. It definitely is labeled as RG670B. Even if they don't do anything really special, I love the clarity of the colors and the golden hues. I'll watch the heat!
