Default Do you like your Bench Top Eye Protection?

I really have been wanting to ditch my eye protection clip-on's and use the Phillips 202 bench top filter with the goose neck. For those of you who own one of these can you give me your opinion of them. Does it get in you way while torching? Where did you buy yours at? Here is a picture of one style of them. I've found the C-clamp ones too which I thought might clamp nice to my hood vent.

Thanks, Dawn

Love mine! Wouldn't trade it for anything Never had a problem with it getting in the way. It takes a bit of getting used to and finding the right position for it but once it's set it's set.

Enjoy!!

What yee said, but if I could clip it above me and not have it on the table, that would definitely be my preference!

I've been thinking about trying a shield too. Where did you find the one with the c-clamp?

I have used a sheild for going on 4 yrs now and I love it! I like Jim's (Blue Moon Glassworks) shields better though because it has a bigger sheild and it comes with a c-clamp that has a quick disconnect to where is you have a permanent connection at home, you can take the c-clamp with you to classes. He is also working on a shorter gooseneck to where you can clamp it on right by your torch to where the base won't be in the way.

Thanks Everyone,

Looks like I just found my christmas present Anne I was looking at Jim's too. I like the bigger sheild and I think a clamp to the base of the torch would be a great idea.

Thanks All!

Dawn

Dawn here is a picture of the proto-type that I was using. It is actually clamped onto the creation station next to the torch, not on the torch itself. It is out of the way more though which is great!!

Thanks for the picture Anne. It looks like it would not be in the way there. I love to use my presses on top of my torch top marveler and it looks like it just might work the way you have it set up. Do you have to move the shield around much while torching or is it pretty much good in one spot? I was thinking of maybe hooking it up to my ventilation system above my torch too.

I don't have to move the shield around but it is on a swivel base so that you could move it around out of the way if you have to.

Good morning,

Anne, I was wondering if you had to move the shield part around while making a bead or is it good in just one spot? It did look like I was asking about the base, lol...

Morning all,
I've been thinking about getting one of the Blue Moon shields for a while, but have held off. How do you deal with using this shield if you do both soft and hard glass? I really like the idea of the clip on base.

Dawn, once I have the shield part where I want it, I just leave it, no moving around.
Kim I believe they are interchangable to where you can take out the didy shield and put in a boro sheild. Ask Jim about that part but I think they are interchangable.

hmmmm i'm a minority. I didn't like mine it was just in the way too much and I'd catch myself trying to look around the glass all the time

I'm with Liz. I tried a friend's and it annoyed the .... outta me. I move around too much, I guess, cuz no matter where I put the base, it would get in the way of my usual setup. Now, if someone could figure out a way to attach one to a Creation Station (without adding to the existing footprint), I might reconsider.

That's why Jim is working on making the one like you see in the picture. It attaches to the CS's base and has a shorter neck so that you work in front of it and not under it like the ones with the longer neck.
