That's surface scuffing: it'll go away when melted. I get the occasional rod like that, I assume it's something to do with the way they pull and process it.

Try encasing white in cobalt blue and pull into a stringer, that might work

To make them satin finished, mat
they need a second chimical process.

Those are def not transparent rods... They are pastels, except maybe for part if the ribbon cane wrap.
Maybe they are using a different acid to etch them. I once had a tire cleaner that would etch only pastel colors, not transparents, and they looked very similar to these. I wish that I could obtain more if whatever it was. It was great. The other answer may be that the solution is weak from use, especially of they etch hundreds of beads. Who knows.

oh right Jaci, I read it as the cores are clear, reading it again they say the glass is transparent, that's not right?

I was actually thinking that they did not mean to say transparent, just "lost in translation" so to speak. I kind of assumed that they were opaque colours.
