Witch balls
What is the best way to get the threads inside? I have read about poking the hot glass in from the bottom, but is this the easiest way?
Thanks.

I've watched them being made at the furnace, the artist blows a smallish ball then pokes it with an ice pick reheats and blows the ball. I'm not sure how to do it at the torch. I don't know if the same technique would work or not, I don't know if there is enough heat.

A witch ball is a blown-glass globe, usually with a loop on top like a big Christmas tree ornament, with a bunch of interconnecting vinelike strings of glass on the inside. The idea is to hang them up in the yard where they'll trap bad influences and keep them from hexing up the house. Or for decoration, because they're really pretty. I've seen some that were as big as a small cantaloupe, but it might be possible to blow ping-pong ball sized ones over a sufficiently muscular torch. A job for boro, probably, but you could probably do it with 90 or 96 coe.

I've done that with Glaskoben before - didn't know they had a name. Pulled some really thin stringers, cut them so size, and put them inside the blown glaskoben, then heat enough to make them start sticking while turning. When they're sticking, pop in the kiln. I would imagine that you could probably do something similar with Boro.

I was curious so I tried Listenup's method. Kind of fun to make. I don't have a big torch so this is small. About golf ball sized.

I'm thinking you could do it with a hollow mandrel. Make some small stringers, blow the bubble & drop the stringers down through the hollow mandrel. I'm going to put it on my "to do" list. You could even make smaller vessels ones to wear on a chain. I had never heard of a witch ball, so this is quite interesting

Here is another one. This one is a little bigger, close to tennis ball size I guess. Definitely looks better in sunlight.
