I love Arrow Springs "Black Diamond" (stays BLACK even when pulled into stringer) and CIM "Tuxedo".

Can I tag along on your question & ask if people have different black preferences for different purposes? For example, core or decoration?

Tuxedo for everyday black - it's just nice to use and cheap and I can usually get slightly thicker rods than effetre
Effetre intense black for reactive effect
Vetrofond deep black for stringer
I don't like hades, it sort of feels brittle, I like reichenbach deep black but it's hard to get

All of the above. Plus Hades for a more intense black.

My favorite black of all time is Vetrofond Black but it's not available anymore, I don't think.
Reichenbach Deep Black thus gets my vote!

Vetrofond Black is listed here, so maybe it's still available from them. They list it at $9.50 per pound. Can't hurt to ask...

I have been struggling with finding th eperfect black, so this is so timely Does anyone know a source for the Reichenbach Deep Black?
I use Effetre for bases, Tuxedo for raised stringer work (stays pretty firm even when hot) and Intense Black for melted in dots because it is dense, but is too soft for stringer work. Tuxedo bleeds into a dark blue when melted in, and Effetre is too purple.
I'd love something that stays black for melted in stringers, so I am thinking the Reichenbach would be perfect Laura

I heard that dark silver plum looks black when pulled into hair thin stringers.

Are Reichenbach Black and Diamond Black as intense as Effetre Intense Black? Anyone know?
I just spent a couple of hours a few days ago encasing Intense Black so that it wouldn't bleed on me. Thanks.

It does, but this can be confusing when you need a good non-reactive black. If your gas mixture is a little off it will reduce.
I accidentally used a dark silver plum stringer on an snow leopard bead and it was all silvery instead of black.

My Vote is for the Belladonna Black from Arrow SPrings.
It works very well in stringers (my main use) but also works well as a base bead.
