Default Ordering glass by the rod

I'm new to boro but not glass. I've been working with a small sampling of boro that was gifted to me and now I'm out and want more. I'm sure none of you are surprised.

I'd like to order from Trevs Glass as they sell by the rod and I just want to buy a few rods and some clear.

If you were going to buy 8-10 different colors for a beginner which ones would you pick? He has TAG, Momka, NS, and GA. I only want to make small beads (for now )

I wanna know too!!!! I'm thinking I might want to cross over... kind of....a little...maybe. So buying by the rod is a good idea for me as well.

You can mix brands no problems. There are certain colors that may cause issues, but in general if it's all 33 COE you can mix it all together.

Make sure you also get clear! You'll need it, AND it's cheaper than colored glass.

There is one newer boro color I would highly recommend, Double Passion from Glass Alchemy is a must have, much friendlier and forgiving than any other amber-purple purple luster style glass.

also these are some of my other favorites:
Agua azul is a great smooth non-reactive color.
Silver strike 5 or 3, or butterscotch.
pomegranite is a beautiful transparent non-reactive red.
yellow, northstar color perfect for all things layered.

I can't believe how cheap the clear is!! And so clear too without scummyness. I'm so sick of trying to find a good clear in the soft. I love the new Aether but it's $60 lb!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Off to make up a list.

my suggestion and how i started learning the colors is to get a sample pack. i would start with Northstar since they have all the basic colors covered. this way all the rods are already labeled and you can learn each color and what it can do. also check the color companies websites for manuals. lots of good tips on how to work the colors.
